PHILS ‘25 Black Friday Tournament

Relaxing and just want to wish all of the OB Phils family a happy Labor Day!

OB Phils founder Oren Cobb celebrated his 80th birthday today. We had a great visit with him, his wife Cindy and their family. Another original Phil ( started in season 2 when he was 18) Mike Egan was there as well. Phitos below are if Irrn, Mike and myself. Iren is planning to join us in Yuma for the Memorial weekend tournament!

Donnelly Memorial Weekend Big Ball Tournament is rapidly approaching. New team jerseys are being ordered and hopefully all the players are staying in shape after the long Covid 19 layoffs. Let's have another great time and enjoy lots of softball and fun with family and friends poolside!

The OB Phils lost a friend and teammate on October 26, 2021. Jim "Mo" Mahoney died while recovering from heart surgery. Jim was the original first baseman for the Phils and will be remembered for his outstanding defense and clutch hitting. WIthout his contributions the team would not have won as many league championships in the 1980s and 1990s.

He was one of the initial inductees into the OB Phils Hall of Fame in 2013.

When his playing career ended he could be found in the 3rd base coaches box for virtually every game (health permitting). He imparted his knowledge of how to play the 16" softball game to his younger teammates and he took pride in seeing them grow.

He always had a quick smile and was ready to help his friends. We will never forget his post game cigar lighting "ceremony".

As per his wishes he was cremated - his ashes have yet to be scattered and there are no services scheduled yet.

Mo will truly be missed and the next time we take the field it will be with heavy hearts at the loss of a great friend, teammate and person.

Viva Las Vegas:
The SSA 16 " Softball Tournament will be held on October 16th, 2021. Make plans to be there! Let's field a stong team and have a fun time! Games will be at Dessert Breeze Park.
