And it’s got a name: grief. We sometimes think it’s heartache, and it probably is. But I think it’s all lung-ache too, in how the emotions affect how we breathe. Appreciating the special relationship of breath and best, lungs and heart, and their sacred choreography. That’s why I like this practice when that heaviness is present. When feelings are too much we have to move the breath and the lungs to help the heart. In Chinese medicine, sadness and grief are associate with the lungs because when big feelings are present, it stifles the breath. Move the breath to move the emotions.
