Do I need a time trial bike to do a time trial?
No, you don’t need a time trial bike.
None of the F**T categories require a time trial bike. You can ride any bike you would like in an age group, race category, or team category. Only a few categories, like the Merckx categories, have equipment requirements.

I’m going to ride my road bike at F**T, should I enter the Merckx category?
It is up to you. You can enter any appropriate age group category or race category. If your bike and helmet meet the requirements for Open Merckx, you can enter that category.

If this is your first time trial, and you will be riding your road bike, consider entering an age group category. See how it feels to do a time trial. Then you can think about getting a time trial bike or you can add clip-on extensions.

The Fiesta Island Time Trials has a unique atmosphere. Everyone is welcome. Fiesta Island is a closed course, no cars, no intersections, no stop signs. It's the perfect place to do a fitness test or test equipment. You don't need a special bike, any road bike will do. Never raced before, this is the perfect place to try it out without the pressure of a mass start race. We have categories for everyone, Age Groups, Race Categories, Fixie, Classic and Modern Mercks, Tandem, Teams, Para. Not sure which category is right for you, just ask.
