Community Alert: South Mission Beach Volleyball Hours

Subject: Potential enforcement of 8:00 a.m. start time for volleyball

​Hey everyone,

​We wanted to share an important update regarding our morning games. A park ranger approached a community member at the South Mission Beach courts this morning and stated that, starting tomorrow, they will begin enforcing a "no volleyball until 8:00 a.m." rule.

​As we all know, our community has gathered at sunrise for years. This early start is essential for those of us who play before heading to work and is a core part of the beach culture here.

What we know:
​There has been no specific law or city ordinance cited for this change.
​We aren't certain if this is a formal policy shift or a specific warning, but we want to be prepared.

Several of the courts have the new nets that we recently fundraised for installed. Other than being new, they also have a new logo printed, "South Mission Beach Volleyball Community".

Thanks again to the community for supporting the net purchase and thanks to Alfredo for installing them free of charge!

Reminder that the courts get dug out and not as fun to play in if the sand is not routinely combed.

We have completed the fundraiser. Thank you for your donations !!! (see list below)

The full $8,000 has been transferred to Alfredo (Link 3 to Venmo screenshots).

20 new nets have been ordered - $6,874 (Link 1 to paid invoice).
The court posts must be re-painted about every 2 years to prevent wood rot. We are reimbursing Alfredo for the material costs associated with these maintenance activities - $639 (Link 2 to receipts).

The remaining $487 will be discretionary spending by Alfredo for additional materials and supplies.

Fundraising is CLOSED. Any money sent after this point will be returned.
