Row Variation where you move the whole spine
Holistic movement
Holistic lifting
The spine was designed to move in waves
And you work more of your back this way, in a true pulling fashion

If you're strictly lifting for gains and hypertrophy, this probably isn't the movement for you
But I would rather sacrifice some of my gains if it means getting my whole body to work together
(W)holistically

Just make sure you engage your core to protect your low back, and tuck your tailbone (posterior pelvic tilt) before each rep

You probably won't be able to lift as heavy, but again, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make

This is what my practice looked like today
And will for the next week
But I didn’t do any asana…

The first 3 weeks of the 10-Week Course, aptly named, is 100% myofascial release
Which is just the scientific term for foam rolling
Except we use more intense tools, as you can see beside my mat
What’s funny is it has taken me about 5 years to make it through this part of the course, because it really is that hard to stop working out and take 90 minutes out of your day to release the adhesions (knots) in your tissues
Not only is it incredibly painful and uncomfortable, but it is not sexy at all
And I think that’s 90% of why we all work out
To feel sexy
What’s more, if you build muscle on top of an imbalanced biomechanical system, it will only reinforce those imbalances

Other thoughts:
Coping with aging
It feels like everyone got super old all of a sudden
It’s like I looked up and everybody has gray hair now, from celebrities to friends
It’s been 12 years since I moved back to West Virginia to go to college
It’s been almost 9 years since I graduated college
I am not giving up on my vision
I am still here, fighting the good fight
I have been putting in work, sewing seeds for the last several years that have not bore any fruit yet
But I feel that will all change very soon

Hey fam
I haven’t really been doing anything super sexy lately
I haven’t been lifting
I haven’t been teaching
I haven’t been doing Jiu Jitsu

I moved to Arizona, and I’ve been in cocoon mode
I’m completing two of the most powerful & technical movement certifications known to man, as well as what has become the most challenging undertaking of my life: a van conversion 🚐
In addition to becoming the most informed and educated professor of movement I can be, part of completing those movement certs is undoing some of the damage I’ve done to myself in my college years, and bringing my body to optimal alignment.
But once these 3 undertakings are complete, I will be opening my own studio somewhere in Scottsdale
I can’t say when, but it’s coming
Until then, I will be posting sporadically on here

Ah, and the reason for the flex was because I saw myself in this lighting and was surprised with the muscle and definition I’ve retained, despite not having followed a real lifting routine in years.
Plus, the older I get, the less f***s I give

I used to care so much about how I look on social media… so much so that I basically stopped posting… on here and on my personal account ()

I am officially breaking down that blockage
