We see the ocean every day — and we see what gets left behind.
La Jolla’s marine reserve depends on all of us showing up with respect. Even one small action makes a difference.
If you’re visiting the coast this week, consider picking up one extra piece on your way out.
It all adds up. Thank you for doing your part.

Help us protect what makes La Jolla special.
With the crowds this week, we’ve seen behavior that puts both people and the environment at risk.
La Jolla is a protected marine reserve, which means everything you see — shells, rocks, anemones, sea stars, fish — is part of a fragile ecosystem. Removing anything from the water or beach is illegal, and even small disturbances can cause lasting harm.
If you’re heading out to explore, here are a few important things to keep in mind:
👉 Look, don’t touch. Oils from our hands can damage marine life.
👉 Leave everything where it is. Shells, rocks, and wildlife all play a role in the ecosystem.
👉 Step carefully. What looks like rock is often a living reef.
👉 Never turn your back on the ocean. King tides bring unpredictable waves.
👉 Give each other space. Overcrowding stresses tide pools and wildlife.
Curiosity is a beautiful thing, it’s how people learn to care. But respect is what keeps these tide pools thriving for the next generation and the next curious explorer.
Thank you for helping protect our ocean. Please share this with anyone planning to visit the tide pools this week.
Honestly…how could you not be?
This isn’t Europe or the tropics, this is a La Jolla winter. And you can only get these kind of views from the kayak.
With local guides and a beautiful coastline, it’s pretty hard not to be impressed. Book your tour or grab a digital gift card online for last-minute gifts.
