We were thrilled to welcome Rocket to our hip hop faculty in April and he’ll be continuing classes this Summer! Rocket brings over a decade of dancing and teaching experience to our studios, fueled by an undeniable passion for movement.

His dance journey has taken him around the globe—learning, competing, and absorbing styles from across the world.

Locally, you might know him as a powerhouse performer with San Diego’s own Fuego Dance Crew, and his deep roots in movement also span across diverse cultural styles, including Polynesian dance. 🌏💃

Whether your dancer is looking to sharpen their rhythm, master new choreography, or focus on artistic growth in a supportive environment, Rocket’s classes are designed to challenge and inspire.

🌟 Celebrate a Senior Series: Makenna Kaplan 🎓
Next up in our Senior Spotlight series, we are so proud to celebrate the wonderful Makenna Kaplan!
Makenna’s journey at Scripps Performing Arts Academy actually began with her first spending several wonderful years in our Musical Theatre Department! Her love for performing eventually drew her to classical training, and in the summer of 2019, she made the official switch to full-time dance. Since then, her journey has been defined by incredible grace, dedication, and versatility.
Not only is she a breathtaking performer, but she has also shared her passion and leadership with our community by serving as a dedicated Student Teacher, inspiring our younger dancers every step of the way! 🩰✨
Throughout her time with us, Makenna has brought beautiful artistry to a wide range of classical and contemporary roles, with notable performances including:
    •    🎄 Marie in The Nutcracker
    •    🍬 Mirlitons Soloist in The Nutcracker
    •    🕊️ Contemporary Works in Nkolika and Passion, Dance, Life
✨ See Her Shine This Weekend: You can catch Makenna’s captivating contemporary movement on full display! She will be performing in two contemporary works this weekend for Scripps Ballet Theatre’s production of Beyond Technique XVI. Don’t miss your chance to see this beautiful dancer and leader take the stage for her final performance with Scripps.

Today, we are thrilled to kick off our Senior Spotlight series by celebrating the wonderful Sarah Pisor!
Sarah is a truly versatile artist who has brought immense talent, dedication, and joy to Scripps Performing Arts Academy over the years. Known for being both a remarkably versatile dancer and an expressive contemporary mover, her dynamic range has made her a joy to watch on stage.
Over her time with us, Sarah has brought several memorable characters to life, with notable roles including:
    •    🐸 Toad Mom
    •    👗 Debutant in Les Rendez-vous
    •    💂 Soldier Doll in The Nutcracker

These talented dancers have dedicated years of passion, hard work, and grace to the Scripps Performing Arts Academy stage. While we will miss seeing them in the studios every day, we are so excited to watch them soar in their next chapters. You can catch them on stage one final time this weekend in 's Beyond Technique presentations in the Vincent Paul Black Box, Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 4pm (ticket link in bio).

As we look back on our Thumbelina performance from last week, we are reminded that the magic starts long before the curtain rises. Behind every effortless glissade and steady balance were hours of strength training, coaching, and a commitment to excellence.

Seeing our dancers support one another in the wings is just as rewarding as seeing them shine under the spotlights. Thank you to our incredible faculty and the families who support these artists every step of the way.

We are still catching our breath after Friday’s stunning performance! On April 17th, our dancers brought this classic tale to life with such poise, technical precision, and heart. Watching the growth of these performers from the first rehearsal to the final bow has been a true joy.

From the delicate flutter of wings to the vibrant energy of the garden, every movement told a story. Congratulations to our entire cast for their dedication to the craft and for a truly professional showing. You all sparkled on that stage! 🌟
