Adapted Athletics, a program of Associated Students Aztec Recreation, provides student athletes with disabilities the opportunity to pursue their athletic and academic goals at the collegiate level. Many of these athletes also go on to compete in national and international competitions.

Today we would like to feature Tim O’Neal, Group Fitness Instructor and Member Services Representative.

Tim started working at the ARC in May 2019 and he completed the Group Fitness Instructor Training ENS credit class in spring 2020. Tim is passionate about promoting health through diet and exercise and he never stops learning! He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in dietetics. He became a registered dietitian (RD) and served for one year in AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. There, he worked as a wildland firefighter, built houses with Habitat, and encouraged outdoor recreation with state park development. He worked on sustainable organic farms in New Zealand before completing a concurrent M.S. in Nutritional Science and Exercise Physiology at SDSU. He earned his group fitness instructor certificate and is currently finishing his health coach cert from ACE. Tim is thrilled to teach Group Fitness classes for Aztec Recreation and sees it as an opportunity to continue to improve wellness wherever he goes. Tim is currently teaching cycling and strength classes every week. Swipe to see class days and times.

Today we are featuring Cindy Solomon, Group Fitness instructor. Cindy started teaching cycling classes for Aztec Recreation in 2015 after falling in love with the fitness classes and the instructors as a freshman at San Diego State University. She grew up competing in all kinds of sports and will forever be grateful for all of the lifelong lessons she learned, including what it means to be a part of a team. She firmly believes and lives by the saying, “Teamwork makes the dream work.”

In 2017 Cindy earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology and is happy to be attending SDSU again, pursuing her doctorate in physical therapy. Cindy believes in doing what makes you happy, for her that includes living a healthy and active lifestyle, pursuing her dream career of helping others on their fitness journey, as well as being surrounded by positive people and good friends. If you ever see her around, please do not hesitate to say “hello.” And of course, Go Aztecs!

Today we are featuring Group Fitness Instructor, Bethany M.

Bethany is a native San Diegan and graduated from SDSU in 2019 with a B.A. in Psychology. Her love of fitness stems from a place of self-love and she firmly believes that one of the best ways to take care of yourself is to keep both your body and mind active and healthy. One of her main goals is to help people feel good about themselves just as they are. When you come to class, you can expect mood-boosting motivation and a great workout. When she’s not teaching group fitness at the ARC, you can find her hanging out at a local coffee shop or farmers’ market.

Join Bethany this semester for weekly in-person yoga and cycling classes at the Aquaplex! She teaches Deep Stretch Yoga Tuesdays at 11:45am and Cycling on Thursdays at 5:45pm.

New study! Researchers looked at the difference in aerobic fitness between COVID-positive patients who were eventually hospitalized and those who were not and found those who were hospitalized had a lower fitness than those who were not hospitalized.

💃🏽Salsa is a fun, social and energetic style of dance with Cuban and Latin influences. Take ENS 138 Salsa Dance this spring and learn both East Coast and West Coast style Salsa. In this one unit virtual class with dance instructor John Nagel, you will independently learn partner dance moves and get ready to "wow" them on the dance floor!

🏀 Basketball Skills & Conditioning ENS 138: improve the fundamentals of your game with professional coach Lonny Mitchell in this one unit virtual class. Get strategic and develop key fundamentals of progressive ball handling and dribbling, passing and receiving, footwork and body control, shooting mechanics, driving and finishing, moving without the ball, defense and much more.

💪 Goal Setting for Lifetime Fitness: learn how to self-design and implement an adaptable exercise program in this ENS 138 virtual course. Instructor John Nagel has over 30 years of experience fitness and dance coaching and will lead you to optimize your New Year's resolution goals.
