FISH AND SWALLOW POWER…
The enthusiasm and success for our Fish and Swallowtail boards is tremendous.
Our team riders are 100% behind these boards.
The split tall has proven itself many times over in varied surf conditions ranging from small Calif. to big Hawaii.
The Fish and Swallowtails have taken their place along besides or perhaps above the round tail or diamond tail, as a valid tail design.
After building, testing and refining hundreds of these fish and swallow type
designs over the last six months we are confident that the models we offer are the finest avallable.
If. you want to try or buy one of our models, please see …

Todays TBT is on the Modern Machine. The need for a responsive board that was better suited for average mainland surf was the development of the “Modern Machine. “
Borrowing some elements from the Egg design with heavy development and input from Team rider Tony Staples, the Modern Machine became one of the most successful shapes for the mid 1970s. Easy to ride and suitable for most conditions that the average surfer is faced with, the Modern Machine would be one of the best all-around boards.
We here wanted to wish our teamryder/ ambassador a speedy and healthy recovery! Last week JP had a pretty bad fall that landed him in the hospital for a few days! It was pretty serious and unfortunate that it happened. We wanted all of our family to send well wishes and prayers for him while he is going through this tough heeling process! We ❤️you JP get well Brotha!
The Modern Machine.
The Modern Machine’s simple concept of “Rounder, Wider, and Thinner”, combined with elements of the Egg, made this a best seller in the mid 70’s. If you are looking for the best all-around board design for everyday surf that’s free-flowing and loose…this is the one! The Modern Machine Performs in 80% of conditions. If you can't afford a whole quiver, this board is one to consider.
Today is the last day of our Stock surfboard sale! Everything from noseriders to eggs. Yes and even Modern Machines are available for purchase. Check the link in the bio or go directly to www.gordonandsmith.com for available stock! Happy Labor Day!

In the works… 😉
The 80’s proved to be one of Gordon and Smiths most challenging decades. In 81-82 Jake Burton showed up and took the whole factory to the hills to try this new board. Gordon & Smith skate team rider, Steve Cathe, developed his own board calling it the "Slicker.
That is how many at Gordon & Smith remember their first introduction
to snowboarding. G&S would eventually manufacture them later in the decade.
In 1980 Ricky ryan would send Larry videos of wind surfing in Maui. Ricky would later connect Larry to Matt Schweitzer who was an avid and excellent sailboarder whose dad owned the patent for sailboards in the U.S. Soon Larry and Matt
Schweitzer came to an agreement and Gordon & Smith became one of the few manufacturers able to produce sailboards.
The Clothing was becoming the dominant product line at Gordon & Smith because it consumed so much of the company resources and space. During the mid-1980s, the surfboard became more of an advertising billboard than a product. Larry found his own team taking on accessory sponsors to fund the growing costs of the world tour. It was not just the costs which bothered him, but rather the harsh reality of having his product seen as a billboard instead of a finely crafted and designed surfboard. It was a crazy time to be a team rider and an expensive time to be a sponsor.
We are extending our stock board sale!!! Originally anticipated to end today at midnight, our stock board sale will continue through the holiday weekend until Monday September 5th at midnight!
Check out our website for what we have, or if local to San Diego, come by the factory and we will help you pick the perfect board! 🤙🏼
The Perfect Pin Description: Designed by longtime teamrider Isaac Wood for "Logging type of competition surfing, in bigger more powerful waves.
The version Isaac rides has an extra deep nose concave with the wide point closer to center. it has a thicker nose section and modern reverse tail rocker. The Perfect Pin is specifically suited for maximum control while on the nose and the tail.
From waist high to overhead this board excels.
The extra thickness in the nose helps to catch waves with ease by keeping extra volume under your chest.
The pulled tail makes for a very performance orientated board with the style and glide of a traditional log.
The extra tail flip allows for effortless rail to rail transitions and a larger sweet spot.
Isaac has also designed a specific fin to perfectly match the flow and style of the board. Recommended surf size, knee to overhead+. The second version of the Pin has a natural Yater rocker with no concave and can come with or without edge in the tail. The two versions are very traditional in feeling but can be adjusted for that ultimate logging experience. For more information on this or any other model please feel free to contact us here at the Factory or send us an email and let us help build you that perfect board!

He went with an 8’6 in a beautiful golden resin tint, concave in the nose, edge in the tail & gloss and polish finish ✨

THE MOST EXCITING IDEA ON THE MARKET TODAY!
The Magic is our own unique combination of lines and planes which we have developed for 1969 surfing. radical turns at greater angles, easier cut backs, better re entries, the potential for creative
maneuvers). The board weighs 12-14 lbs. with a 16* nose and a 15" tail. The center thickness is 3¼*,
the width is 22 - 23° and the rails are medium egg shape, This board is a progressive fast shape designed for those who want to go all out at top speed. The wide point is forward of center. The lines are streamlined and flow from semi-pointed nose to rounded tail. The flat bottom and low rail at the tail flow into a round bottom and high rail at the nose. The round tail gives a smooth and powerful turn. The bottom shape and the outside line provides maximum trim speed and fantastic acceleration throughout the The Magic is our specialized answer to a board that gives top speed under full control (our guided missile). The faster you go the more you can do (eg.)
We had so much fun yesterday at the End of Summer BBQ hosted by our friends 🌞

Todays TBT takes us back to the 80’s When we asked the question how much fin is too much fin? We use removable fin units in our tri-fins for these reasons:
1. Surf varies in size
2. Surf varies in power & speed (juice)
3. Style and personal requirements are different
For optimum tri-fin conditions (lots of juice),there are two proven fin set-ups. One with all fins about the same size, (photoA) and the other with
the outside fins a little bigger than the trailing fin (photo B).
If the waves get small or mushy and you start to get bogged down, you simply put in a smaller trailing fin.
This logical progression could even lead to NO trailing fin, but then the two side fins should be replaced with larger regular sized twin fins…
Excuse the wrinkles… these are just that fresh!!!🍍🍍🍍

The egg is curved with an “egg shaped” outline, full round tail and catch free rails, the Egg is easy to surf yet it can perform at an extremely high level. The classic egg is one of surfing’s most versatile under-rated designs. Everyone should have one in their quiver.
Features: Flat bottom to “Vee” in tail or double concave depending on fin set up. Can be ridden as a Single fin, 2+1, Tri fin. Upon request, we can make it wider or more narrow as a "Speed Egg" dims are 6’6”x 21 1/2”x 2 7/8”

Today is a little TBT. Here are a few reasons why the “modern machine” works so well. The Modern Machine has stood the test of time, with its clean, simple and functional design. It can be ridden all over the world In multiple types of conditions. From California to Mexico, to the east and gulf coast surf.
Doug Saladino was given the nickname “Pineapple” by our dear friend Joe Roper. Other friends of Doug threw around the term “Pine Design” and Doug began to write it on his boards.
Then, Bobby Garcia drew a big pineapple on one of Doug’s skate set ups and wrote “Pine Design” in it.
After some time Doug had a Pine Design graphic sticker made, and later on Larry Gordon and Dave Macintyre decided it was time for Doug’s first pro model.
Fast forward from then to now, we have reissued a couple of Doug’s models, and stickers, plus more fun things to come later this month! 🍍🙌🏼
