🇮🇪🐴 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚: 𝗔𝗡 𝗜𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗗
Some horses win trophies. Others leave a mark that lasts for generations. Cruising did both, carrying Irish breeding onto the world stage and earning a special place in the hearts of showjumping fans. 💚
🧬 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
Born in 1985, the grey Irish Sport Horse stallion was bred by Bord na gCapall. His sire was the Irish Draught Sea Crest, himself a Grade A showjumper, while his dam, Mullacrew, was an international jumping mare by the Thoroughbred Nordlys.
That pedigree brought together Irish Draught heritage and Thoroughbred influence. Cruising would give breeders a memorable example of what those bloodlines could achieve at the highest level. ☘️
🏆 𝗔 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮
With Trevor Coyle in the saddle, Cruising competed against the world's best. His crowning achievements included winning the Aachen Grand Prix in 1999 and finishing second in the 1999 World Cup Final in Gothenburg.
His international record also included Grand Prix victories at Lucerne, San Marino and Wolfsburg, plus World Cup qualifier wins at Millstreet and Geneva. These were results earned across different venues, courses and seasons.
For Irish supporters, there was team pride too. Cruising helped Ireland win Nations Cups at Dublin, Aachen, Calgary, Rotterdam and Modena. The grey became part of a remarkable chapter in Irish showjumping. 🇮🇪👏
🌟 𝗔 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴
Cruising's influence reached far beyond his own rounds. His offspring included showjumpers Flexible, Mo Chroi, World Cruise and Larkhill Cruiser, alongside celebrated event horses Mr Medicott, Mr Cruise Control and Electric Cruise.
Success in two demanding disciplines made his breeding legacy especially significant. Horse Sport Ireland's stallion records awarded him five stars for his own showjumping performance, and five stars for his progeny's achievements in both showjumping and eventing. ⭐
💚 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴
Cruising died on 7 September 2014, aged 29, at the McCann family's Hartwell Stud in County Kildare. He passed away in the very stable where he had been born, shortly after a final public appearance at the Dublin Horse Show.
His story connects sporting achievement with a lasting contribution to Irish horse breeding. A great competitor, an influential sire and a grey horse worth remembering. 🐴✨
