There is a lot of pressure placed on women when it comes to attraction. Look better. Dress better. Say the right thing. Don't text too soon. Don't text too much. Be confident but not intimidating. Show interest, but not too much. Be feminine, but don't lose yourself. No wonder dating can feel exhausting.
Women are often taught that being attractive means perfecting the outside of themselves. But attraction isn't a checklist, and men aren't walking around with a mental scorecard determining whether you've achieved the perfect combination of hair, body, clothing, conversation, and charm.
What men notice first has much less to do with perfection and much more to do with presence.
Attraction isn't a performance
Physical attraction matters. Pretending that it doesn’t matter would be unrealistic. But attraction is about more than physical appearance.
Think about someone you've met who immediately captured your attention. Maybe she wasn't the most conventionally beautiful woman in the room. Maybe she wasn't wearing the most fashionable outfit or saying the cleverest things.
Yet there was something about her. She seemed comfortable in her own skin. She was engaged in the conversation. She laughed easily. She looked interested in what was happening around her. She wasn't constantly checking to see how she was being perceived. She was present.
That kind of presence can be incredibly attractive because it communicates something deeper than appearance. It communicates that I'm comfortable being me.
Men respond to presence, not perfection
When you're trying to be perfect, you're rarely fully present. You're thinking about how you look instead of enjoying the moment. You're analyzing his reaction instead of listening to what he's saying. You're wondering whether you should smile, touch his arm, ask a question, or wait for him to make the next move.
You're watching yourself instead of experiencing yourself. And that self-monitoring can become exhausting.
Imagine what would happen if you stopped trying to manage every impression you make. What if you allowed yourself to be curious? What if you laughed because something was genuinely funny? What if you made eye contact because you wanted to connect? What if you let your personality show instead of trying to calculate the most attractive response?
You might discover that the woman who feels the most magnetic isn't the woman trying the hardest to be magnetic. She's the woman who is actually there.
The most attractive thing may be your relationship with yourself
Self-connection is often overlooked when we talk about attraction. We tend to focus on how to get someone else's attention. But before you can genuinely connect with another person, there is another relationship worth paying attention to, the one you have with yourself.
Do you know what you like? Do you know what makes you laugh? Do you know what you're curious about? Do you know what feels good to you? Do you know what you want and what you don't want?
When you're connected to yourself, dating becomes less about performing for approval and more about participating in an experience.
Instead of asking, Does he like me? You begin asking, Do I like how I feel around him? That is a powerful shift.
Stop auditioning for the role of "desirable woman"
Many women have unknowingly turned dating into an audition. They walk into a room wondering whether someone will find them attractive. They carefully choose what to say. They worry about being too interested, too independent, too sexy, too successful, too available, or too much.
But attraction isn't about convincing someone to select you. You are not applying for the position of girlfriend. You're meeting another human being and discovering whether there is a spark.
That means you get to notice him, too. You get to wonder whether his energy feels good to you. Whether you're curious about him. Whether you enjoy talking to him. Whether you feel relaxed enough to be yourself.
Flirting becomes much more enjoyable when you're not trying to win. You're simply exploring.
Confidence changes the way you experience attention
Confidence isn't about believing everyone will find you attractive. It's knowing that you don't need everyone to. That's an important distinction.
When your confidence comes from within, someone else's lack of interest doesn't have to become a verdict on your appearance or your worth. Rejection can simply mean there wasn't a match.
When someone is interested, you can enjoy it without immediately turning their attention into a measurement of your value. You can receive a compliment without questioning whether they really mean it. You can enjoy being noticed without needing to be chosen. You can flirt without knowing where the interaction is going.
That freedom creates space for something much more authentic, connection.
Your body knows when you're performing
There's another reason presence matters. Your body often knows when you're trying too hard. You may become tense. Your smile feels forced. You're thinking several steps ahead. Your attention moves from the person in front of you to the imaginary audience inside your head.
When that happens you become enmeshed in an inner dialogue that focuses on you. You may find yourself thinking, “How am I doing? Did that sound stupid? Does he think I'm attractive? Should I say something else?” It's difficult to experience pleasure and connection when your mind is busy grading your performance.
Flirting invites you back into the moment. Notice your surroundings. Notice your senses. Notice your curiosity. Notice how your body feels. Notice the person you're talking to.
You don't have to manufacture chemistry. You simply have to be available to experience it.
The woman who enjoys herself is different
There's something compelling about a woman who isn't waiting for someone else to give her permission to enjoy herself. She laughs with her friends. She enjoys her coffee. She gets excited about what she's doing. She notices beauty. She dances. She plays. She engages with life. She isn't necessarily trying to attract anyone.
And that's part of what makes her attractive. Her energy isn't saying, Please notice me. It's saying, I'm already enjoying being here. That is presence. And presence creates an entirely different experience of flirting.
You don't have to become more attractive
One of the biggest myths women can believe is that they need to become more attractive before they can have the relationship they want. Here are a few of those limiting myths, lose weight, change your hair, buy better clothes, get younger looking skin, learn better dating techniques, become more mysterious. The list never ends.
But what if the answer isn't becoming more attractive? What if it's becoming more connected to the woman you already are? Your beauty doesn't need to be perfect for you to flirt. Your body doesn't need to look a certain way for you to feel sensual. Your personality doesn't need to appeal to everyone for you to be confident. You don't need to eliminate every insecurity before you allow yourself to be seen.
You can start where you are.
Flirting starts with noticing
We often talk about flirting as something you do to make someone notice you. But perhaps flirting starts somewhere else.
You notice first. You notice the person you're talking to. You notice what makes you smile. You notice when someone catches your attention. You notice your own response. You notice the spark.
Then you allow yourself to respond authentically. A glance. A smile. A playful comment. A genuine question. A moment of laughter. None of these require perfection. They require presence.
This is why inner work changes outer results
When you work on your relationship with yourself, the way you show up in the world begins to change. You may stop chasing attention and become more discerning about whose attention you actually want. It is possible that you stop overanalyzing every text and start communicating more naturally. You shift from worrying about whether you're enough and become more interested in whether the connection is enough for you. You could become more comfortable being seen because you aren't relying on someone else's reaction to tell you who you are.
This is why inner work changes outer results. The goal isn't to become a woman who can attract anyone. It's to become a woman who is so connected to herself that she can recognize and create genuine connection when it appears.
Your most magnetic quality may already be there
You don't need to walk into a room as the most beautiful woman in it. You don't need the perfect outfit. You don't need the perfect body. You don't need the perfect opening line. You don't even need to feel completely confident.
You simply need to be willing to be present. Let yourself enjoy the moment. Let your curiosity lead. Let your personality show. Let yourself be seen without turning the experience into an audition.
Because the woman men notice may not be the woman who worked the hardest to get noticed. She may be the woman who forgot to perform because she was too busy enjoying herself. And perhaps that's the real secret to attraction. You don't become magnetic by trying harder to be noticed. You become magnetic by becoming more deeply connected to yourself.
"You don't have to be perfect to be magnetic. You just have to be present."

Friday’s Flirt - Stop Chasing the Spark. Start Being the Spark. We’ve been taught to look for the spark that instant rush, the butterflies, the undeniable chemistry. Truthfully, the spark isn’t something you have to sit around hoping will happen it’s something you can create. Put down the mental checklist and get into the moment. Instead of analyzing every word or trying to predict where this is going, be curious about what’s happening right now.

A little curiosity creates intrigue. A little eye contact creates tension. A little playfulness creates energy. And when you’re fully present, confident, and willing to let yourself be seen, you give attraction something to work with. The spark doesn’t come from saying the perfect thing. It comes from the energy you bring to the moment.

Real attraction has room to breathe. It grows through curiosity, playfulness, confidence, laughter, flirting, and the freedom to be fully yourself. You don’t need to become more perfect, more polished, or more desirable to create a meaningful relationship. You need to become more connected to you, your energy, your boundaries, your desires, and your joy. Because when you know yourself, you stop chasing chemistry and start creating the kind of connection that actually feels good. That’s where the fun begins.

Now that’s something worth flirting with. Wink, Wink,

Friday’s Flirt – Your Spark is Magnetic. Sometimes the sweetest sparks have nothing to do with dating. They happen when someone notices you, thinks of you, and simply decides to make your day a little easier. While I was away on vacation, my friend, Ciro DeLucia surprised me by creating this week’s Friday’s Flirt video. His message said, “I thought I would give you a helping hand since you were out of the office for the week.” How sweet is that? Apparently, flirting isn’t the only thing that can make you smile, having thoughtful friends who happily step in to help can create a pretty irresistible spark, too!

It’s a beautiful reminder that connection shows up in so many forms. A thoughtful gesture, a little generosity, a willingness to help, or simply letting someone know you’re thinking about them can brighten your entire day. And maybe that’s part of your Friday’s Flirt this week: notice the people who bring a little extra sparkle into your life and let yourself enjoy it. You don’t always have to be the one doing, giving, and making things happen. Sometimes the flirt is simply being open enough to receive a little sweetness.

Thank you, Ciro, for giving me a helping hand and for reminding me just how lovely it feels when someone has your back. 💕

Always remember, Your Spark is Magnetic. Let someone feel it!

Friday’s Flirt - Pause, Darling. Life Is Meant to Be Enjoyed. What if you didn’t have to rush to the next thing? What if, for just a moment, you stopped checking the list, solving the problem, or figuring out what comes next and simply enjoyed where you are? Take the long sip of coffee. Feel the cooler breeze on your skin. Notice the way someone smiles at you. Laugh because something is actually funny. Let yourself linger over dinner, music, conversation, or absolutely nothing. Pausing isn’t wasting time. It’s experiencing your life.

And here’s where it gets flirtatious. Flirting begins when you become available to the moment when you notice instead of rush, feel instead of analyze, and allow curiosity to lead. You don’t have to turn every interaction into a possibility or every moment into a goal. Sometimes a lingering glance, a playful smile, a delicious sensation, or an unexpected conversation is enough. The enjoyment is the point. When you give yourself permission to pause and enjoy, you reconnect with the playful, radiant woman already inside you. That energy is attractive because it isn’t trying to be anything, it’s simply alive.

So today, try a little experiment: Pause. Look around. Take it in. Enjoy something for no reason at all. Let yourself be delighted. You might be surprised by what or who you notice when you finally stop rushing past your own life.

With a little pause, a lot of pleasure,

The Woman You’ve Been Missing Is Still Within You: Discover Your Inner Flirt and Reclaim Her

Friday’s Flirt - The Woman You’ve Been Missing Is Still Within You: Discover Your Inner Flirt and Reclaim Her
Written by Shelly O’Connell, Flirting, Confidence, and Relationship Coach for Women
Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine
Shelly O’Connell is redefining flirting by challenging outdated assumptions with fun, insightful perspectives. She is a Flirting Coach for Women and the author of the book, Finding Your Flirt.
There is a moment many women know but rarely talk about. It happens when you catch yourself in the mirror and realize you don't quite recognize the woman looking back at you. Somewhere between careers, relationships, responsibilities, expectations, and simply getting through life, the playful, vibrant part of you seems to have gone quiet.
You may still be successful. You may still be accomplished. You may still show up for everyone around you.
But perhaps you miss her. The woman who laughed more freely. The woman who felt attractive without needing someone else to confirm it. The woman who could walk into a room and feel curious about what might happen next.
Finding Your Flirt was born from the belief that she isn't gone. She's waiting to be rediscovered.
Flirting is about more than dating
When most people hear the word flirting, they immediately think about dating, attraction, or trying to get someone's attention. But flirting can be so much more.
At its heart, flirting is about energy. It's about being present enough to notice what and who sparks your interest. It's about allowing curiosity, playfulness, warmth, and confidence to move through you.
Flirting can happen in a conversation with a stranger, across a dinner table, while traveling, at work, or simply when you're enjoying your own life. Perhaps most importantly, flirting can be an invitation to reconnect with yourself.
That's what makes Finding Your Flirt different from another book about finding a partner. It isn't about teaching women how to perform for someone else. It's about helping women remember who they are when they stop performing altogether.
The woman you were before you started playing small
Many women have spent years learning how to be acceptable. You may recognize some of the following made-up rules regarding women and their behavior.
· Be nice.
· Don't be too forward.
· Don't take up too much space.
· Don't appear too interested.
· Don't make the first move.
· Don't be too sexual.
· Don't be too confident.
· Don't risk rejection.
These rules may look different from woman to woman, but the result can be remarkably similar: we learn to monitor ourselves rather than experience ourselves. Over time, that self-monitoring can disconnect us from our natural confidence and spontaneity.
We begin asking:
* Am I attractive enough?
* Am I too much?
* What will they think?
* Did I say the right thing?
* Do they like me?
But what if we asked a different question? Do I like how I feel when I'm around this person? That is where the shift begins.
Instead of making someone else's attention the measure of your worth, you become an active participant in your own experience. You stop auditioning. You start choosing.
Finding Your Flirt is a permission slip
One of the most powerful ideas behind Finding Your Flirt is that women don't necessarily need another set of rules. They need permission. Permission to be playful. Permission to express interest. Permission to enjoy attention without making it mean something. Permission to flirt without promising anything. Permission to feel desirable without needing to be desired by a particular person. Permission to change their minds. Permission to take up space. Permission to have fun again.
Flirting isn't superficial when it comes from a place of authenticity. It can be an expression of curiosity, confidence, connection, and aliveness.
When a woman gives herself permission to explore that energy, something begins to change. She becomes more present. More expressive. More connected to her body. More willing to take a risk. More comfortable being seen. And that confidence doesn't stay confined to dating. It begins to influence everything.
From self-doubt to self-assurance
Confidence isn't something you either have or don't have. It's something you cultivate. Every time you make eye contact instead of looking away, you practice confidence. Every time you express what you want instead of waiting for someone to guess, you practice confidence. Every time you let yourself be playful without worrying about how you're being perceived, you practice confidence. And every time you survive the possibility of rejection without making it mean something negative about your worth, you become more resilient.
This is why flirting can be transformative. It's not because a clever line suddenly makes you irresistible. It's because practicing authentic expression teaches you that you can trust yourself.
That is a very different kind of confidence.
You don't have to be dating to find your flirt
Perhaps the biggest misconception about flirting is that you need to be looking for a romantic partner to benefit from it. You don't. You can be single. You can be partnered. You can be divorced. You can be happily dating. Or you can have absolutely no interest in dating at all.
Your flirt is still yours. Because your flirt isn't simply the woman who attracts someone else. Your flirt is the part of you that is awake to life. She notices beauty. She follows curiosity. She laughs. She plays. She takes chances. She expresses herself. She allows herself to feel.
She remembers that life isn't only about productivity and responsibility. There is room for pleasure, connection, spontaneity, and joy. That is why rediscovering your flirt can become a much bigger journey than learning how to flirt with someone else. It can become a way of flirting with life itself.
A modern approach to feminine energy
For many women, the idea of feminine energy has become tangled in expectations about how a woman is supposed to behave. Be softer. Be more passive. Let him pursue you. Don't initiate. Don't be too direct.
But feminine energy doesn't have to mean becoming smaller, quieter, or less powerful. It can mean becoming more connected to yourself. It can mean allowing yourself to receive while also knowing what you want. It can mean embracing sensuality without performing sexuality. It can mean being powerful without needing to prove your power. It can mean allowing your personality, warmth, humor, intelligence, and desire to be visible.
Your femininity doesn't need to be a costume. It can be an authentic expression of you.
The spark you've been missing may be your own
Sometimes women believe the missing spark in their lives is a person. They think they need to meet the right partner to feel excited again. But what if the spark isn't something someone else gives you? What if it's something you rediscover within yourself?
When you reconnect with your own energy, dating begins to change. You may become less interested in chasing validation and more interested in genuine connection. You may stop asking whether someone finds you desirable and start noticing whether you feel alive around them. You may become more willing to initiate a conversation, make eye contact, laugh with a stranger, or simply allow yourself to enjoy being noticed.
Suddenly, dating isn't a test you have to pass. It's an experience you get to participate in.
Finding your flirt means finding yourself
The journey isn't really about becoming more attractive. It's about becoming more you. It's about remembering the parts of yourself that became buried beneath expectations and responsibilities. It's about rediscovering your confidence. Your playfulness. Your curiosity. Your sensuality. Your voice. Your ability to choose. Your ability to connect. And your ability to enjoy your own life without waiting for someone else to make it exciting.
Finding Your Flirt offers women a fresh perspective on what flirting can be: not a performance, not a manipulation, and not a strategy for getting someone to choose you. It is an invitation to choose yourself.
Your flirt is waiting
You don't need to become a different woman to become magnetic. You don't need the perfect body, the perfect outfit, the perfect dating profile, or the perfect opening line.
You may simply need to reconnect with the woman who has been there all along. The one who wants to laugh. The one who wants to play. The one who wants to feel desirable. The one who wants to experience life instead of constantly managing it.
The one who is ready to be seen not because she needs approval, but because she no longer wants to hide. That is the woman waiting inside Finding Your Flirt. Perhaps she's been waiting for you, too.
Your flirt is waiting. Go find her.

You may simply need to rediscover the part of yourself that knows how to play, engage, and enjoy connection. Friday’s Flirt - Savor the Last Days of Summer: Let Your Senses Lead the Way. Summer has a way of reminding us to slow down and actually experience our lives. Before the season slips away, give yourself permission to savor it. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Listen to the sound of laughter, birds, or music drifting through an open window. Notice the sweetness of a perfectly ripe peach, the scent of sunscreen and fresh-cut grass, the glow of the evening sky. Don’t rush past these moments, immerse yourself in them. When you engage your senses, you become more present, more playful, and more alive. And that, my friend, is where your flirt begins.

Flirting isn’t just something you do with another person. It’s a way of engaging with life through curiosity, pleasure, presence, and play. When you slow down enough to notice what feels good, you naturally begin to open your energy. You become more aware of your surroundings, your body, your emotions, and the people around you. That awareness creates the kind of magnetic presence that no pickup line can manufacture. So, before summer ends, flirt with your senses. Take the long way home. Dip your toes in the water. Wear something that makes you feel beautiful. Taste something delicious. Look up at the sky. Smile at a stranger. Let yourself be delighted. Because flirting is ultimately about reclaiming your aliveness and there is no better time to practice than right now.

If you’re ready to take that energy beyond summer and into your dating life, let’s work together. Flirting Coaching helps you reconnect with your senses, become fully present, and tap into the playful, magnetic energy that naturally draws people toward you. Because when you’re truly in the moment, you’re more open to noticing the sparks, possibilities, and connections happening all around you. Visit https://shellyoconnell.com to begin your journey of discovery through flirting.

Your flirt isn’t something you have to find. It’s something you get to awaken.

With love & delight,
