When we keep our legs straight in a forward fold it forces us to have to bend from the spine, which overtime is really damaging to the vertebrae.
Instead focus on the alignment of your bone structure, and this will be a completely different experience.
When you bend your knees, you can move from the very top of your thighs, which creates a hinging of the hips, a tilting forward of the pelvis, allowing the spine to stay long as you extend forward.

Yoga teaches us to be adaptable and resilient but sometimes it’s easy to get stuck wishing you were where you were 10 years ago. But if we slow down and really listen to where our body is right now, we can learn to give it what it needs and feel so much more present and empowered by doing so. Staying in the past keeps us disempowered.
