This is the archived page of the carvel planked, Nova Scotian built Square Rigger a.k.a. ROYALISTE. Evidently, there is someone sailing in the Bay Area under 'Privateer', but there is no connection whatsoever other than the Pacific Ocean; one of ROYALISTE' sailing venues. Enjoy the photos. Fair Winds and a Following Sea....
Privateer!
'Privateer!' is an organization dedicated to Maritime History during the Age of Sail, Historical Reenactments, and sailing Tallships.
The organization is also the parent organization campaigning the privateering vessel 'Royaliste' on her voyages...
In the upcoming months, I'll be making a transition with this page when Royaliste moves west..Still active at Privateer!, just not aboard Royaliste after September...
Man, what a lot of rain!..Prepping the bottom for re-launch, and it's tough going with mother nature's spigot open....more water downstream for Louisiana
It looks like time for an update..Royaliste is on the hard in Kentucky, awaiting a spring re-launch. There are a few interested parties , so I'm off in January to meet up with a surveyor. Being a realist, I'm still ordering cotton, caulk, and bottom paint for spring.
Royaliste is currently moored in Algonac, WI. We are enjoying the summer hospitality, and catching up on a few more details before transiting to Green Bay.
The ship is in Cleveland doing some detail work before heading to Green Bay. Still looking ofr a few good crew.
We;re re-stepping the rig tomorrow in Buffalo, then it's off to open water again!
Royaliste is currently at lock 14 on the Erie Canal, and all is well. The usual amount of totally dumbfounded local folks as we make short stops...Not too familiar with pirate ships in these waters!
Ahoy and avast, ya scallywags!..We launched Monday, and transited Lake Champlain to lock 12 in Whitehall, NY, birthplace of the US Navy...Onward today to possibly Waterford, NY and the start of the Erie Canal. Just my old friend Peter and I sailin' the 'ole girl westward at present...
Update..The repair/ refit is almost complete, if the rain will let me finish the bottom and topside paint. She'll be hanging in the slings all weekend, with a Monday launch.
Ahoy, mateys!..I'm in New York working on Royaliste for re-launch.. I hope to make her wet in ten days or so. Then it's making ready for the excursion time..I finished the below the waterline caulking on the starboard side, and hope to finish the port side tomorrow.
Ahoy! It's now official, we won't be appearing at Harborfest in Oswego,NY. The promoters cited low water conditions where they were planning on berthing us. SO, now we'll be travelling the entire length of the Erie Canal, and re-stepping the rig in Buffalo, NY on Lake Erie...It would have been nice to do the Harborfest, but it wsn't in the cards, I guess...
