There are two ways you can show up to an IRONMAN start line: fit and fresh, or fit and fatigued.
In both situations, you'll be able to point to a log full of great training. The question is which one leads to the race day you want.
Here's what actually happens: most athletes treat fatigue as proof the plan is working. So they stack sessions, skip recovery, and carry that fatigue in their legs all the way to race morning. They don't underperform because they're unfit — they underperform because they never let their fitness show up.
Training smarter means recovery is built into the program, not squeezed in when you break. It's how our athletes walk onto the start line feeling dangerous instead of drained.

RUNNING MORE WON'T FIX YOUR IRONMAN MARATHON.
After a rough run split, most athletes do the obvious thing: pile on run volume. More junk miles on tired legs. Injury risk goes up, freshness goes down — and the real problem never gets touched.
The reality is, a breakthrough run off the bike comes from fewer, more purposeful run sessions, strength training that bulletproofs your legs, and bike fitness that lets you get off the bike fresh instead of fried.
That's how you get 450+ pro podiums and 1,500+ World Championship qualifiers: by fixing the cause, not the symptom.

You don't need more hours. You need to get more out of the hours you have.
If your IRONMAN training feels like a second job, it's not going to end well.
The reality is, 12 well-structured hours a week will outperform 18 chaotic ones almost every time. Not because volume doesn't matter — because purposeless volume quietly destroys your fitness, your freshness, and your race day.
We've seen it hundreds of times. The athletes who train the most don't podium. The athletes who train the smartest do.

HUGE CONGRATS TO TRI SQUAD ATHLETES LINDSEY AND MARK!!! Both qualified for 70.3 Worlds at Muncie 70.3, AS PART of their training for IRONMAN Chattanooga. Yes, they qualified for worlds at a race that was meant to be a primer! That is awesome.
Without getting into all the details of their race reports, one thing that stands out isn't that the races were perfect, it's that they were able to handle all the different challenges that came up both physically and mentally. Now comes the next crucial part on their build for IRONMAN Chattanooga, which is a 30 minute coaching call to go over lessons learned and get help making personal changes to the IRONMAN build they are on.
This is Tri Squad in a nut shell. Athletes that are passionate about getting better who are autonomous week to week but get coaching support when needed to help them achieve breakthroughs. These results and smiles can't be faked. PRs and fun, it's what do.
Congrats again champs, we are excited to see what you accomplish at IRONMAN Chattanooga.

THE IRONMAN MARATHON ISN'T A RUNNING RACE.
It's a test of how much damage you did over the first 114.4 miles.
Here's the thing: most athletes who walk at mile 16 could run a stand-alone marathon just fine.
We've spent 20+ years figuring out why fit athletes walk IRONMAN marathons. The answer is almost never run fitness. It's whether you were built up across the swim, bike, and run to actually tap into the run you trained for.
That's why Purple Patch athletes are the ones passing people over the final 10K — not just surviving it.

Not Your Father's IRONMAN Training Plan.
Most athletes think nailing an IRONMAN means logging 15, 18, even 20-hour training weeks. Grinding through junk miles. Surviving the build.
That approach doesn't just wreck your schedule and your life. It wrecks your race.
The athletes who show up fit AND fresh on race day? They didn't out-volume everyone else. They out-smarted them.
We've spent 20+ years coaching professional triathletes and busy age-groupers. 450+ pro podiums and wins. 1,500+ athletes qualified for World Championships. We know what works — and we know how to make it work with your life.

"If someone told me I had to train 20 hours a week to race an IRONMAN, I'd say this isn't the right project for me."
That's Stephanie — doctor, mom, IRONMAN World Championship qualifier. She did it without destroying her schedule, sleep, or sanity.
Kevin? 53-minute IRONMAN PR. Chris? A decade of injuries and burnout — then within one season, winning.
None of them out-volumed the competition. They out-smarted it.
That's what we do: help athletes train smarter so they can race faster.
And a key part of that is not just handing you a plan and saying good luck. Even for our Squad athletes, we're there every step of the way to coach and support you.
