When people ask me to learn a HANDSTAND I follow up with some questions:

How much do you BELIVE that you can achieve a Handstand? How much TIME do you have to invest in your practice? Not thinking of it, but DOING IT?

Some people can learn fast and others take longer, but I will share my process time here:

I didn’t have a handstand 3.5 years ago and it took me 1.5 years to do my first 10-sec hold and around 2 years to get my first 60-sec hold. I just got my handstand because I had DISCIPLINE and I followed what my teacher told me to do.

When I started my hope to stay on my hands was little because my mind was playing with excuses. One day in practice I could feel for 2 sec the sensation to stay freely on my hands and all the excuses were gone. Instead of repeating to myself that “ I Can do it” -I started a “mantra” ( inspired by one of my little students) - I AM DOING IT! I AM DOING IT!!!

Some days were frustrating and others were great, but I wanted my handstand SO BAD! My plan was and it still is to don’t follow my thoughts when they arise. Good or Bad and I’m continually learning.

The reason why we delay practicing is that we always think that we have more time. We don't. Sometimes we have to create time. Create opportunities!

If you don't have more time to waste and want to learn how to do a Handstand I’ll say: Yes, I can teach you.

You just have to BELIEVE and DO THE WORK.

What a great memory to have this picture here. It reminds me that there are no excuses for those who want to get better. I was practicing during masks time with dear friends in the middle of the street in front of their garage. Some of them were doing deadlifts and I was doing my sets. Anywhere. Anytime. You just need your body and a structure to BELIEVE and be FREE.

Since the shoulder joint (glenohumeral joint) is one of the most mobile joints in the human body, why not get it strong to perform movements with a great range of motion and explore what our bodies can do?

It’s never too late to start and there are progressions for everything in this life. We human beings often have little awareness of some of our major accomplishments as learners.
Baby steps...do you remember?

We have the power to change our bodies and do amazing things, but we have to do the work. Nobody is going to do it for you.

Skin the Cat is one of my favorites straight-arm strength moves, but took me months to be able to perform with a better range of motion. I still have lots to work on, but I'm not in a rush because I'm not getting ready for the next summer. I'm getting ready for LIFE.

The arching practice has many benefits to the body and opens doors for other movements.

There are many variations and levels to start with! We have to listen and respect our bodies giving the right amount of exposure.

Because our daily lives ask for more rounding positions, this practice can be challenging and it feels almost like a therapy session because opening the heart will help you to “see” things better!

Being an immigrant in 2 different countries has taught me a lot over the years. Some days it's not all about butterflies and rainbows and I have to stay strong.

The truth is, we cannot forget the reason why we are here. “O motivo do motivo” as my friend .cmc says.

I try to pass my knowledge to the young ones at the Youth Boxing class teaching that everything in life depends on how much you believe. Keep your HEAD UP and believe in your potential. Do it for YOU. Be strong and fight for it!
