The Pilates Cadillac teaches me control with support.

is how I train adaptability with uncertainty.

I'm having a completely different experience in my nervous system when I am tasked with finding control in an unpredictable environment.

Both are great for the body. One is going to train you for life outside of the studio.

The best thing a Pilates teacher can do is take a class that isn't Pilates.

I get a lot of teachers in my classes and they bring their clients. Not because Pilates isn't working for them, but because they need different feedback and different demands.

FitSprings uses the spring resistance that is already familiar to you and puts your body in unfamiliar patterns of movement against multiple points of resistance.

Studios who added this equipment message me constantly about how their clients are getting stronger and their Pilates is even better.

Learn more about this system at my next training in San Francisco on August 8-9.

Movement is a series of calculations.

We are processing timing, space, force, direction, effort and position.

👉Was the box placed in the right space?
👉Was the spring load challenging enough?

This combo of the Pilates chair and reformer box offers changing conditions to familiar exercises. If you can do it here does it translate to the reformer?

Give a body a problem to solve and see what happens. I understand people like repetition, but adaptability and variety can be the difference between tripping and breaking or just tripping.

What's your reference point for sensory feedback?

We started with the bar. If you are watching your clients from behind you can see how they shift as they move the carriage.

They are constantly processing how to stabilize against changing force, pressure and position.

Standing movement depends on the ability to adapt to these changes.

Test it and see what the body says.

Are you training for the burn or for neurological adaptation?

While some like it spicy,
I will take a side of smart if it means I won't break.

Mindless fatigue and muscle shakes doesn't necessarily transfer to real life.

This side body series on the Cadillac and is teaching your core to act as a braking system. Your brain is calculating where your center is and is working to keep you from falling.

I'm not training to get tired or fail. I'm training my body to know what to do to detect errors in real life - if only this transferred into relationships but that is another lesson 😂😂😂😂

Magic circle 👉Core or Legs?

This challenges rotation and control with the feedback of the circle.

It's not just an "abs" exercise it's watching and learning how the body wants to collapse at the waist or lose connection between top and bottom leg.

Learn these on the mat first then when you go to do twist or side planks on the reformer you have the baseline for what the body needs to do.
