We often take our own selves for granted. We are unknown to us and insisting in knowing who we as an endpoint is counterproductive.

The more we can see ourselves as mysteries to be discovered, the easier it becomes to get interested and eventually committed to living our unique lives, our unique truths.

Though paradoxical, accepting ourselves as unknowns opens the possibility of making our greatest impact.

On February 13, 2020, right before this pandemic shocked the world, Exec. Adviser Torben Nielsen and I facilitated a VIP session at The Annual Iceland Chamber Business Forum.

The day brought together national and regional leaders to share cutting-edge directions and practices on the important matter of global sustainability.

What did we emphasize that day?

A new kind of leadership that our world is screaming for.

One that takes seriously the idea that we are not merely complex production machines, destined simply to disintegrate in our last breath.

Our quality of life is largely determined by the quality of our relationships, and this includes our relationship with our own selves.

What does this have to do with our current times?

It turns out that children's resilience can be deeply influenced by their experience during a time of crisis.

If you are a parent who deeply cares about your children's resilience for life, your relationship with them during our current times will make a significant difference.

Research in this area shows that children who later become most resilient when facing adversity are those who had the most supportive relationships when facing adversity in their early years.

Prioritizing a healthy and positive relationship with your children is vital to their long-term quality of life.

Especially during our current times, our connection with our children will eventually determine how they relate to their own selves and recover during challenging times (i.e., overcoming fears and inhibitions, their confidence when experiencing failure # ).
