Hi paddling community,
Today (Tuesday, November 16, 2021) some of our members went to paddle out of the site, but upon arrival saw that the lock got cut and that someone stole a canoe off of our racks.
Sadly, it is the Green/Black Ares OC1 that we recently brought down from Oregon. Please... if you see a canoe left around the Bayview area or see just a hull being sold online, alert us. They only stole the hull. Iakos and ama are safe inside the container.
Thank you!

Kayaks Unlimited and ICDBTC will be the hosting community groups and Islais Creek Park will be a cleanup site for California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday September 18th from 9 AM to noon. We will pick up trash and debris in the park, on the beach, and around the banks of Islais Creek Channel.
The Port of San Francisco and San Francisco Recreation and Park Department will provide supplies and support for the event in Islais Creek Park. Participants are being asked to bring reusable water and drink bottles and their own work gloves and a bucket (if possible) to help reduce waste generated by the cleanup. Wear sturdy shoes that may get wet, layers of comfortable clothing, and bring sun protection and sunscreen. Trash pickers will be available, but if you have your own, please bring.

With Covid restrictions for December, we will focus on training up mentors for 2021 cycle. Showed Sally and Justin the ropes today in accessing the site, preparing the boats, demo-ing for new members, and general safety when bringing out youth mentees.

Great to have Mentor Eri and Mentee Sammie out training and paddling at Islais Creek. Due to Covid, we are keeping sessions limited at our site, slowly reopening with selected mentors and mentees with masks on the whole time. We will assess again in the new year when we take on new mentees. Keep a look out for the application when it comes out!

Mentor Tek with his mentee Allan taking out the Red Kai Wa'a Canoes and Kayaks Gemini OC2 for its maiden voyage. Due to Covid, our Youth Mentorship Program halted for over six months. At this time, we are trying out double masked paddling sessions on the OC2. When the new year comes, we will be looking for a new set of mentees. Stay tuned if you're interested!

Took some time to redo the rack arms with PVC tape and insulation. These should hold for longer!

The days are getting shorter so we added some motion sensor lights in the container.
