A few years ago, a dream about a white peacock ignited a week-long exploration of the Peacock Pose, or Mayurasana, in my yoga classes. This elegant yet challenging arm balance has since become a cherished part of my teachings. Recently, a student's request brought this pose back into focus, inspiring me to guide practitioners of all levels through its intricacies.

I had a dream last night, and perhaps it was inspired by the recent loss of Master Sharath Jois and the yoga classes I've been attending lately. In the dream, I was wearing a shirt I had bought at an Ashtanga event back in 2016, standing in the center of a room filled with dedicated Ashtanga yogis immersed in their practice....

Remembering Master Sharath Jois: My Journey with Ashtanga Yoga
This blog is a tribute to my experience with Ashtanga Yoga and the impact it has had on my life as both a student and teacher. I write this with a heavy heart after hearing of the passing of Master Sharath Jois on November 11, 2024. Learning about his death left me feeling stunned and quiet for two days, as I reflected on what he meant to me and so many others. Meeting him in person, and having a photo taken together, was a moment I’ll always treasure. Master Sharath dedicated his life to sharing and preserving the Ashtanga Yoga tradition, and his teachings have inspired me deeply...

I hope students enjoyed the retreat and learned a lot from this experience. I know I have. I’ve learned what people like and dislike. Maybe I can use this experience to make my yoga teaching, next retreat/workshop, and life in general better. I’m proud of Sherry—her first hurdle to the chin stand transition. Not many can do that in other yoga classes. Also, considering her age and physical condition, I am very surprised and emotional. James achieved his first lotus pose in his life despite coming into my yoga classes and yoga retreat for all the wrong reasons. I’m proud of both of you and everyone who showed up. I know I am not easy to deal with. I am not all about love and light, but I hope this experience becomes an unforgettable memory for each one of you.
