Hi fellow FBers. None of you have seen me on Facebook for the last several years, as I basically abandoned the platform, with only the occasional check-in to see what friends were up to. But given the recent events in my life, I’ve decided it’s time to at least dip my toe back in. The big news, on the professional front, is that I am launching a new Urban Putt in Downtown San Jose, along with a Kickstarter campaign (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/urban-putt-san-jose/urban-putt-san-jose-mind-bending-mini-golf-restaurant-bar), to help me drag this project to the finish line. At this point, I am shooting for a January 2024 opening. It’s a massive undertaking: 13,000 square feet housing 18 incredible custom-designed mini-golf holes, a giant mezzanine (with private bar) for parties, 40-foot-long bar on the ground floor, and a full kitchen. To say I am exhilarated about this would be a huge understatement. I am also exhausted and maybe a little terrified, as I’ve never taken on a project of this scale before. The number of moving parts, not to mention the cost, is mind-numbing. I am buttressed by a cadre of recent top-notch hires and a loyal group of investors, many of whom have supported me since the launch of Urban Putt San Francisco in 2014. In future posts, I’ll fill out the picture a bit more, and provide background on other events, including the status of Urban Putt in San Francisco and Denver.
Right now, I’m heading to the construction site, at 201 S 2nd St. in San Jose, for my daily dose of construction challenges and golf hole wrangling. More to come. --Steve
