Have you ever been curious about how many calories your body is burning? Oftentimes the numbers our wearables give us can be pretty off, but a more accurate way to find out is to measure it. We can use the same equipment for a VO2 test to find the calories you burn each day, this is called a Resting Metabolic Rate test, and unlike a brutal VO2 analysis, all you have to do is lay there 😴. If you have serious body comp goals or want to dial in your energy and nutrition requirements, let us know!

Halo came in as someone we wouldn’t (and who he himself) wouldn’t consider a runner or an endurance athlete. However, by looking at his data from a VO2 analysis we can see how creating a better aerobic foundation would still benefit him in a more anaerobic sport like bodybuilding or weightlifting. While we can get into training for various sports more specifically elsewhere, generally when we develop aerobically, recovery and thus overall performance will benefit, regardless of what the activity is!

Very simply, a VO2 Max test can tell us a lot about your overall fitness level, and it’s not just for runners! By finding out how well your body uses oxygen at maximum exertion we can tailor your training more specifically and create something that’s going to help you achieve your goals in the most efficient way possible. Stay tuned as we go through each facet of this test in upcoming posts!

Two team members of the Run Lab, Pita and Madison, have both graduated from USF with a B.S in Kinesiology. Congrats to both of them! They both started with P4L two years ago as interns, and now Pita is a head coach and bio mechanist and Madison runs our operations. Run Lab would not be the same without them, and we have been so grateful to support them these last few years. We can’t wait to see what their future holds! @ Perform For Life - FiDi

Isolation weight gain? No problem! High-Intensity Interval Training helps your body metabolize fat! A properly designed HIIT program can help your body learn to use fat as fuel in as quick as 2-weeks while increasing your aerobic capacity too. HIIT can allow you to get a great workout in less time and you do not need a lot of space, which means you can easily do HIIT workouts from home during quarantine!

Get your spine right! I know with this quarantine we are all doing a lot of sitting. Lower and mid back pain can be exacerbated during periods of extended sitting. Check your self and make sure that spine is in a line and you are not slumped! Netflix binges and working from home can cause excessive curvature in certain parts of your spine which can ultimately lead to long-term pain! Keeping your hips above your knees when you sit can really help you stay upright all day long!
