Bill Steinkraus told THM in 1983: “I cannot stress too much the vital importance of restoring all aids to their normal state as soon as the horse has complied with them. Once the horse has gone forward, ease up on your driving aids; once it has shortened, open your fingers again enough to reward. It is very common to see exactly the opposite: the rider gets the horse to come back once, but never releases his closed fingers again, and spends the rest of the hour hanging in the horse’s mouth, or, having gotten the horse to go forward, spends the rest of the day with his legs stuck halfway through the horse. The reason you want your aids to be effective is so that you can teach the horse to respond to them more and more sensitively – and so that you can use them less and less."

Congratulations team Westport on a great first week Sonoma Horse Park
Annalise Denard and Secret Collection earned themselves great ribbons in the .70 and .80 jumper divisions. This was their first time doing the jumpers and they rocked it. Pappy didn’t touch a rail all week.
Rossini and Simone Smith were 7th in the 3 ft. Jr/Am Derby and numerous other top ribbons in the adult amateur division.
Isabella Smith and her two girls, Quinka and Akimba had an amazing week.
Quinka and Akimba tied for Reserve champ in the jr/ao 1.20 division while Quinka took home the 1.30 JR/AO division championship. This combination just moved up to the 1.30 division and it’s clear they have earned the right to be there!
Bushido and Wendy earned nice ribbons in the 3’9 green and an 8th place in the Ushja international Derby.
Great work team
