Have you ever wondered if creatine is right for you? *cue Big Pharma commercial background music*
We all know creatine for muscles, but researchers have been testing it for brain energy. When you’re sleep-deprived, it helps. 🤯
Here’s what NEW studies say:
Two new double-blind studies kept people up for 21 hours. One high dose of creatine (14-24g) reduced the mental crash by up to 12% — better memory, faster problem-solving, less zoning out. 💪🏼🧠 Peak effect was around 4 hours after taking it.
When you’re well-rested? Not really. 🤷🏻♂️
In healthy young adults who slept fine, 6 weeks of daily creatine showed basically no boost in focus or memory.
Why? Your muscles soak up creatine fast. Your brain has a tight security wall, so only a little gets in — unless you’re stressed, tired, or older, then more gets through.
Safety note: The doses that helped with no sleep were 3-5x the normal gym dose of 3-5g/day. Researchers said high doses can strain kidneys and upset your stomach, so don’t copy the lab dose at home.
Bottom line: Sleep > supplements. 😴
But if you have to be up, creatine is showing promise as a temporary backup battery — not a superpower. 🔋
From my professional opinion, I belief every person who lifts weights should take it. Obviously consult with your doctor if you have concerns.
