Over the past year, the Sonics team has been fortunate to have the support of BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation. This Giving Tuesday, consider supporting BORP as they support our local community of disabled athletes!
BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation – BORP advances the lives of people with physical disabilities through sports and recreational activities.

The Sonics recently had a great showing at the 16th Annual California Classic in Sacramento. Thanks to the Sacramento Shockers for hosting and to BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation and City of San José, All Access Sports & Recreation for supporting our team to bring necessary sports chairs to the tournament.

Hi everyone! Our team is gearing up with a strong roster of 10 people — but unfortunately, the single remaining thing blocking us is that we don’t have basketball chairs for our players to use in tournaments — and after months of searching, there don’t appear to be any reliable options where we can borrow chairs. A few of our players have their own custom chairs, but most of us do not. New basketball chairs from reputable companies cost upwards of $5,000. We want our team to be able to welcome everyone who wants to play with us, regardless of income.
This is where you can help. If you have an adult basketball wheelchair you’d like to donate (with wheels of course preferred, but we’ll take it even without wheels!), or if you know anyone else who has one to donate, we would love to speak with you! And we can keep you updated on how our team is actively using it and winning tournaments with it!
If you don’t have a basketball chair but you’re interested in helping monetarily, we’re actively working toward establishing a non-profit. If you’d prefer to wait for that for a tax deduction, feel free to message us and we’ll get back in touch with you as soon as this gets established!

Hey everyone! We’re excited to officially announce that we are a new team: the South Bay Sonics! While we practice in San Jose, we welcome anyone from across the Bay Area to join our team!
This page was originally owned by the San Jose Thunder, which disbanded during the pandemic. So, if you’re discovering this page for the first time, this is why you’ll see lots of old photos showing the Thunder. For now we’ll keep these photos up to honor the legacy of the team that came before us. Our new South Bay Sonics team is playing in the same place (Bascom Community Center), but the team is fully reconstructed from the ground up with new players.
We’re joining the Northern California Recreational League, and our first upcoming tournament will be at the one in March hosted by BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation in Berkeley. We're excited to meet all the teams currently playing!
