Girls should learn that they can compete fiercely, chase their goals, and still celebrate another girl's success.

Her victory doesn't take anything away from yours.

Good sportsmanship builds more than better athletes. It develops confidence, respect, leadership, and friendships that last long after the game ends. 💜

Behind every game are athletes learning, teammates stepping up, and coaches helping a team grow. In “More Than a Score,” I explore why consistent, thoughtful local coverage helps girls’ sports and the people who make them matter become part of a community’s story.

The next great story may be waiting at a school gym or neighborhood field. We just have to show up, ask questions, and listen.

💜 Fun Friday | From Linda’s Desk®

Taking some time out today for a little FUN! 💜

Most days, I'm busy writing stories, connecting with incredible women, and building Women Sports USA®. And I love every minute of it!

But today, I thought I'd have a little fun and share a different side of me. Well, maybe five different sides! 😄

The leader, the athlete, the storyteller, the determined problem-solver, and the advocate. They're all part of who I am. And, of course, Sunshine had to make an appearance! 🐾

Sports taught me to work hard, stay determined, and pursue what matters. But they also taught me something equally valuable: Never forget to have fun along the way.

Sometimes we get so caught up in what we're trying to accomplish that we forget to enjoy the journey.

So here's my Fun Friday thought: Whatever you're working toward, make room for a little laughter, creativity, and joy.

Life isn't all about the finish line. Sometimes the best moments happen along the way.

What Are We Telling These Players?

When female athletes reach the highest level of their sport, what should that moment look like?

The Atlanta Dream's potential move to a smaller arena for the 2026 WNBA Finals raises an important question. Not about who is responsible, but about whether the infrastructure supporting women's sports is keeping pace with their success.

These athletes have spent years preparing for moments like this. Fans are showing up. Interest is growing. Yet even at the championship level, questions remain about whether the available facilities can accommodate that growth.

What does that tell the young girl watching from the stands, dreaming of playing professionally one day?

Facilities are more than buildings. They represent access, opportunity, visibility, and the space we create for athletes to succeed.

At Women Sports USA®, we recently explored this very issue in our article, Where She Plays Matters: How Sports Facilities Shape Girls' Opportunities.

The conversation begins with girls trying to find a place to play. But as we're seeing, it doesn't necessarily end when they become professionals.

Perhaps the question isn't whether women's sports are ready for bigger stages. Perhaps it's whether we're preparing those stages for them.

Was it well-maintained? Did your team have consistent practice times? Or did you have to make do with whatever space was available?

For girls today, those experiences still matter.

Sports facilities can influence more than athletic performance. They can affect safety, confidence, family schedules, and whether girls feel their participation is valued.
