A girl can care deeply about her teammates and still be curious about what she might learn on another field or court. A supportive coach helps her explore those opportunities while learning to communicate and follow through on her commitments.
Our latest Women Sports USA® article celebrates coaches who make room for growth, work together through schedule conflicts, and understand that recovery belongs on the calendar, too.
Great coaches leave lessons that last well beyond the season. Giving an athlete the confidence to speak up and pursue her interests can be one way to do so.

Meet Skylar Dixon—a nine-year-old athlete who knows she belongs on the football field.
Skylar began playing tackle football at six years old. Today, she competes as a running back, linebacker, and wide receiver while also participating in gymnastics.
Although she is often the only girl on the field, Skylar does not define herself that way.
“It feels normal. I just feel like I’m part of the team, like a regular player—with some talent.”
Skylar has faced doubts, unkind comments, and opponents who try to intimidate her. Yet she continues to play with confidence, determination, and joy. Her inspiring journey has also received encouragement from the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Winds, and Riddell.
When asked what she would tell another girl who wants to play football, Skylar’s message was simple and powerful:
“Don’t be scared. Just don’t be scared.”
We are honored to share Skylar’s Athlete Spotlight and celebrate a young girl who is showing others what is possible when they confidently pursue what they love.

The comeback everyone celebrates begins long before anyone is watching.
It begins during physical therapy, with the first careful walk or on the difficult day when an athlete decides to try again.
We often celebrate the visible return—the first competition, the finish line, or the moment an athlete steps back onto the field. But we rarely see the patience, fear, setbacks, and quiet victories that made that return possible.
Our newest Women Sports USA® article, “The Comeback Nobody Sees: What Athletes Learn During Recovery,” explores how recovery can teach athletes to redefine progress, rebuild confidence, accept support, and listen to their bodies differently.
Not every comeback returns an athlete to the same sport, pace, or competitive level. Sometimes it opens the door to a new chapter—and a deeper understanding of strength.
Progress does not have to be public to be powerful.
