Even if someone is training as much as possible it still takes time to get good and depending on how good you want to be it could take many years. What’s helpful then is to develop the skill of patience, because jiujitsu will always be a test of it.

San Lorenzo BJJ is committed to providing a clean and safe training environment. Friendly reminder to all members and guests to always maintain good hygiene and wash all gear after use. Please keep nails trimmed and have footwear on when off the mat area (with the exception of the changing rooms). Thank you for your cooperation and helping keep San Lorenzo BJJ a great place to train.

The most important thing at my gym is not the number of medals people win, it’s how happy my students are.

Sometimes people quit jiujitsu because they don’t think they’re getting better, which I find unfortunate. When we compare ourselves to others it can seem like we’re not improving but it only seems that way because our training partners are progressing at the same time too. It can be discouraging how long it takes to get good at jiujitsu but with dedication and patience the results will come.

It’s my dream to make a place that’s safe and fun to learn jiujitsu. Thank you to everyone who has helped make that a reality.

Some things are hard to learn because they’re counter intuitive. Things that feel right can be wrong and things that don’t make sense can be right. For the sake of learning it’s important to trust your instructor and keep an open mind.

People say that jiujitsu gyms aren’t very lucrative and I’m totally ok with that. I opened a gym because I wanted to help people and teaching jiujitsu makes me happier than anything money could buy.

One of the reasons I opened a gym is to help people live happier, healthier lives. Going to jiujitsu is the best part of the day for a lot of people, and it has a lasting positive impact on our lives. It’s something that I hope everyone gets to experience at least once in their life.

In the past it was more frowned upon for students to cross train at different gyms. Thankfully jiujitsu has progressed over the years and it’s become more acceptable. I think it’s great to meet new people and train with a variety of practitioners. I encourage all my students to visit other gyms and get exposed to different styles of jiujitsu because that just makes them better.

I’m just glad that I found something in life that after 10 years I still love doing.
