Eagle Point Fishing Camp, San Leon, Texas Eagle Point is a Marina and RV Park centrally located on Galveston Bay. We have a large boat ramp, b You have an RV? Fishing Made Simple!

Eagle Point has been used by people for easy access to the middle of Galveston Bay for centuries. We are the oldest fishing camp in Texas, opened in 1929 and mainly used for boat launching and bait sales for sport fishermen. Anglers may store their boat at Eagle Point boat in a covered boat slip with lift or in one of our indoor boat sheds. Come stay with us in our RV Park and spoil yourself with amazing views of Galveston Bay.

Today, I fished with Josh Benge, his son, Brady and nephew, Jaxson. They are a referral from Captain David Dillman. They had a great bite all morning long and ended up with their limits of speckled trout and black drum, using live shrimp from Eagle Point Fishing Camp. The water conditions right now are good, and there are plenty of fish around Eagle Point.

Tale of Two Days
It’s quite frustrating at times how fishing changes from one day to the next. Sure, weather can do that, but when conditions are similar, it’s hard to explain. That was the case from Saturday to Sunday.
Saturday, I fished with Billy Pierce, his wife Veronica, and Billy’s father.
I met Billy and Veronica at a less fortunate(homeless), although I dislike the word homeless, ministry in Galveston. It’s been awesome to witness how God has transformed their life. Anyways, he wanted to take his dad fishing, so Saturday was the day! We caught plenty of fish, but most were short of the legal size limit. Lots of speckled trout and black drum were caught on live shrimp. They boxed around 8 keeper fish, but only one was a trout.
Sunday, I started somewhere that I hadn’t fished in a while. Ed Bylik and his two young boys were fishing with me. We’ve been trying to schedule this trip since May, but Select Baseball came first. Our first few stops yielded some undersized reds but nothing else. I then ran over to Trinity Bay, where we caught three keeper drum. Few other boats were in the same area. I’m that guy who thinks if I see more than one other boat, it’s too crowded! I moved to an isolated reef, and there we got on a nice bite. These folks have never fished with a popping cork, so there was a major learning curve. The trout responded to lots of popping of the cork. The end result, they missed some really nice trout but landed six solid keepers and a nice red. This was the same reef, I fished on Saturday that was full of small fish. Go figure.

Today, I fished with Larry Grissom again ( not in the picture) and his friends, Joe Lawley and Jim Taylor. We had a good bite all morning long but most fish were undersized. They still ended up with a good box of speckled trout, black drum, and one redfish. Another great day to fish out of Eagle Point Fishing Camp.

Sunday, I fished with Daniel Chiu and his friends Riley,Skip, and Derrick. We had to dodge a few thunderstorms but still managed to put together a nice box of fish. They caught speckled trout, black drum, and one flounder using live shrimp from Eagle Point Fishing Camp. It was a great day.

We can’t thank Derrick Shore at KPRC2’s Houston Life enough for making the drive to San Leon on an early morning to capture this special story. We are honored to have been able to partner with the Twilight Wish Foundation - Houston Chapter to grant Mr. Chavis’ wish: he wanted to go fishing on a boat for the first time, and both Captain Juan and Eagle Point were ecstatic to have been able to make this special day happen. Captain Juan and I partnered with the Twilight Wish Foundation to make a veteran’s wish come true: he wanted to go fishing on a boat for the first time.
