This is a female Northern Flicker, a type of woodpecker. She was brought to us from Atascadero and is recovering from spinal trauma. Flickers are beautiful birds that show bright red feathers under their wings and tails when in flight. They are often seen on the ground enjoying their favorite diet of ants and bugs. Male Northern Flickers have red moustaches and a black chest crescent and, like other woodpeckers, they make loud, frequent calls and drum sounds.

We found so many beautiful wildflowers blooming on the Laguna Lake open space today. My favorite time of year.
How many can you identify?

WHO IS THIS?
Here is an easy track to identify. Remember to look at the overall size, the number of toes, and if there are claws present. I wish I had some plaster on this day. Perfect track!
