Nicolas Ehmig, 21-year-old German bodybuilder, stopped into the gym earlier this month while visiting America for the 2026 Arnold Amateur competing at 284 pounds. Known as a "German Mutant," he took a strong 2nd.

Old school iron. No filters. No fancy machines. Just work. Today I trained at the legendary San Marcos Athletic Club — better known as SMAC. The oldest gym in Texas, right in downtown San Marcos.  You can feel the history the moment you walk in. This place has that real golden-era bodybuilding energy — chalk in the air, heavy plates on the bar, and people who are here to train, not to be seen. Many lifters consider it the definition of an old-school bodybuilding and powerlifting gym.  No distractions. Just iron, sweat and the mentality that built the legends. Training here feels like stepping back in time — the kind of place where bodybuilding culture was built. Grateful to experience a gym like this while I’m here in Texas. Real gyms like this are rare.
