Impromptu beach clean up happening right now with Queen Stella (2025). It looks like every storm drain in LA dumped out on our beautiful beach.
Come to our New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim and Dip. Coronation of new King and Queen is at 11:30am!

Hi Bobby!

Happy New Year from the Cabrillo Beach Polar Bears, 2026!

New Year’s Day Update- we’ve had a lot of questions regarding our 74th Annual New Year’s Day event at Cabrillo Beach. Unfortunately, LA County has declared the beach closed for swimming due to a high bacteria count after the recent rain and spill. The Polar Bears will still be at the beach tomorrow morning to crown our 2026 King Stephen M. White and Queen Moni Olguin at 11:30am. While we can’t advise that you go for a swim tomorrow, you are welcome to join us for the coronation and refreshments afterwards.
It’s very unfortunate to have to make these changes to our favorite event of the year. The Polar Bears swim at Cabrillo Beach 365 days a year and the water, which is tested each week by the Department of Health, consistently receives an A grade.
We hope you can join us for a healthy and invigorating swim when the beach reopens for swimming. Have a very healthy, safe, and happy New Year!

Thanks to Howard Freshman Photography for the great photos of our 2026 Polar Bear King Stephen and Queen Moni taken yesterday morning at Cabrillo Beach for the Daily Breeze.
It’s looking like there might be a bit of rain to start off the New Year. We are still planning to be at the beach for our coronation at 11:30am and noon dip in the ocean. Official Polar Bear t-shirts, sweatshirts, and cupcakes will also be available. Hope to see you there! 🐻❄️

The Cabrillo Beach Polar Bears were thrilled to participate in the 45th Annual Spirit of the Holidays Parade this past Sunday. Our King and Queen for 2026, Stephen M. White and Moni Olguin, looked very comfortable in their regal roles as they made their way along the parade route. There’s only 19 days to go until their coronation on New Year’s Day on the sands of Cabrillo Beach. We hope to see you all there!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Cabrillo Beach Polar Bears! We enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving morning swim today with our 2026 Polar Bear King and Queen, Steven M. White and Moni Olguin. Water temps are right around 62* and the visibility was excellent.
