“The needs of an Olympic athlete and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind. One is looking for functional dominance, the other for functional competence.” -CrossFit Level 1 Training Guide
At first glance, an Olympic athlete and your grandparent may seem to have completely different fitness goals.
One wants to run faster, lift heavier, jump higher, and perform at the highest level possible.
The other wants to get off the toliet, carry groceries, climb the stairs, play with their grandkids, and maintain their independence.
But underneath it all, they need the same thing: the physical capacity to do the things life asks of them.
The difference isn’t what they need. It’s the degree to which they need it and that’s what makes functional fitness so powerful.
The goal isn’t necessarily to become the strongest or fastest person in the room (though that’s the goal for some).
The goal is to be capable—today, tomorrow, and for as many years as possible.
Grind. Refine. Shine. 💪✨
