Distinguishing “right” from “left” is an important skill for our young dancers to achieve, and we reinforce learning this concept right from the start at .
Our mascot, Tina Ballerina, is stamped on our right hand at the beginning of class to serve as a cute reminder. This leaves our left hand available for a fun sticker at the end of class to reward good behavior and effort!

“Level” 🩰 ⭐️ 💕
4/5 year olds use ribbon stick props to explore the various levels: high, medium, and low. Moving creatively to different tempos through our spacious studio is an added bonus!

4/5 year olds use beanbags to explore different ways to balance. Moving sideways, forward, backward, like a flamingo 🦩 (passé) and on our tiptoes (releve) all help reinforce how important it is for dancers to have good balance!

Used this sweet rhyme along with a cute little pretend mouse 🐭 on top of our ballet slippers to review “passé”

Teaching more than dance steps at . While changing from jazz to tap shoes, students engaged for two minutes in discussing an “everyday manners” topic. Last week’s topic was the importance of introducing ourselves to other classmates. Thank you,
, for allowing me to extend the usage of this awesome flip book beyond the walls of my home and into my dance studio!

“It’s easier for her to take dance at (another studio) because it’s offered at school and she’s already there.”
“People want their kids to compete—recreational classes won’t be very popular. Might not be a good business move.”
“It’s not you, it’s just not convenient.”

These are all actual statements made to me.
I get asked all the time why I don’t participate in dance competitions, why I offer an after-school dance program in a town that has multiple options for dance (which are probably much more convenient for parents in terms of logistics), and why I focus on technique over trophies.
While I definitely understand the reasons why you wouldn’t want to factor in a once-a-week after school dance lesson at our studio, I think it’s fair to consider some reasons why you would.
Here’s what I believe:
I focus on the whole person within each dancer. Technique, performance, community, and character—it’s what matters more than routines, rankings, and ribbons. I care deeply for each of my students and want them to grow into caring, confident adults.
Born and raised in Washington County, I grew up taking dance here as a child and a teenager. I am invested in carrying on a hometown tradition that was one of the best memories I had growing up...because I want it to be one of your child’s best memories of growing up. I put the time and tuition that you trust me with right back into our community.
Art is not a sport. Trying to quantify a subjective craft through a “win-lose” culture with little to no regulation creates unnecessary tension. At our studio, we create to connect.
The dance education I provide is more than learning a routine. Sure, we learn routines, and we enjoy performing those routines! It’s learning technique that you can take anywhere. It’s how to express not only through physical demonstration, but through written and verbal participation, observation, and critical thought. It incorporates musical, theatrical, and historical elements. Classroom manners, respect, and theatre/performance etiquette is strongly emphasized. Knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, and overall well-being is woven through, giving your child a multi-faceted experience.
Childhood is meant to be filled with fun and variety. Time is valuable and fleeting! We meet once a week to share our love of dance with your children, leaving the rest of your time to be free for what’s important to you (family, friends, other activities, etc.)
Give her a gift she’ll never outgrow...self-confidence, poise, and an appreciation of the arts in a nurturing and caring environment.
Our community is blessed to offer so many fun extracurricular activity choices for children. We encourage you to enjoy exploring what is available! If our studio sounds like a good fit for you and your family, I’d love to share more information about our dance program with you. Email me at [email protected] or send me a private/direct message.
Respectfully,
Whitney Kyzer

Your choice to support our hometown dance studio means that you choose to support
☀️ the dream of someone who was born and raised here,
☀️someone who chose to give back what she learned for the benefit of your children,
☀️someone who turns around and puts the dollars she earns from you right back into the community’s educational, recreational, and healthcare sectors...
Thankful for those who choose consciously.

Teddy Bear Week at was “BEARY, BEARY” fun for our little ones.
Children brought their favorite stuffed animals to dance class for many exciting activities—we practiced ballet technique (arabesques, waltz step, bouree turns, and much more) and tap danced while holding our stuffed animals. Props make learning dance technique FUN!
Our dancers enjoyed introducing their furry friends to the class!
Mrs. Whitney even brought some of her favorite stuffed animals, including 34-year-old Popples, that she has loved since she was 3 years old!

Getting recital ready...practicing by facing away from the mirrors!

Studio closed April 4-8. Enjoy your Spring Break!
