The Bicycle Tree We support bicyclists and create healthy bicycle-friendly communities through activities, advocacy, and education.

The Bicycle Tree is a nonprofit community bicycle center. During public hours, you can use our tools to work on your bike with the help of our volunteer mechanics. We also sell used bikes, parts, and accessories, plus a decent selection of essential new items. We also do bike rides, bike donations, youth programs, and other activities. Check out our new location - opening Saturday, June 10th 2017!

On April Fool’s Day 2006, we held our first weekly maintenance workshop at the Victor Manor. 20 years later, we’re still helping people fix their bikes.

El 1 de abril de 2006, tuvimos nuestro primer taller semanal de mantenimiento en Victor Manor. Veinte años después, seguimos ayudando a la gente a reparar sus bicicletas.

Spring is here and the Tree’s branches are bountiful! Starting Wednesday, March 25th and running through Sunday, March 29th, we are offering 10% off green tag bikes, 20% off yellow tag bikes, and 30% off red tag bikes!

Our green tag bikes are tuned up and test-driven, with everything in good or excellent condition - these bikes are either low-mileage or fully overhauled. Our yellow-tag bikes may have rolled more miles, but are mechanically sound, tuned up and ready-to-ride; everything is in fair or better condition. Red-tag bikes have not yet been determined to be ready-to-ride and are available as-is; some need a little, some need a lot, all can be projects you can fix up your way!

As usual, we have all kinds of bikes: cruisers, mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrids and city bikes, youth bikes, new and old, entry-level and high-end!

Some of what we have right now:

Slide 3: Trek XCaliber 7, medium
4: Pro Flex 856, large
5: Orbea Opal, large
6: Olmo Competition, 57 cm
7: Univega Alpina S7.7, small/med

The Bicycle Tree is hiring! Application link in our profile.

JOB TITLE: Lead Mechanic
HOURS AND COMPENSATION: 16-24 hours/week, $22-25/hr with potential expansion to full time.
HIRE DATE: ASAP
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION: At the Bicycle Tree, Lead Mechanics work with a small team of paid staff, a larger pool of volunteers, and our broader community to equitably support bicyclists with bikes, parts, tools, and knowledge. Lead Mechanics consistently use their expertise to evaluate and repair bicycles thoroughly, accurately, and efficiently while guiding and assisting repairs performed by clientele and volunteer mechanics. Lead Mechanics help maintain organization, inventory, and documentation in a collaborative, community-based environment. Lead Mechanics lead by example to maintain practices that are mechanically sound, educationally expansive, and socially accessible.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: During the Bicycle Tree’s public hours, Lead Mechanics engage in all aspects of customer service and general operations, including cooperative instruction, drop-off repairs, documentation, and sales. Lead Mechanics provide repair evaluations, estimates, triage, troubleshooting, and final checks to help ensure safe and reliable quality to work often mainly carried out by volunteers and do-it-yourselfers. Lead Mechanics help manage the inventory of supplies, and are responsible for maintaining an orderly workspace. Lead Mechanics also evaluate, triage, and repair bicycles and components that have been donated to the Bicycle Tree, and contribute to in-store and online sales-related work that supports our mission. As a core member of the Bicycle Tree, Lead Mechanics participate in our collective decision-making process and bring their expertise to guide ongoing improvements to our space, workflow, practices, and communication. Lead Mechanics may periodically engage in offsite mechanical instruction/outreach activities.

The Bicycle Tree could not offer accessible repair, donated bikes, educational opportunities, or other resources to our community without the financial support of generous supporters. In 2025, these nine donors each contributed $500 or more to sustain our work, for a total of $31,340. Most of these funds were given in December, providing much-needed relief. We are extremely grateful to all the other people who donated last year in any amount; additional financial donations totaled over $6,000. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2026, please consider becoming a monthly or annual supporter of the resources the Bicycle Tree continues to share with our community.

Many thanks to these donors for their support of the Bicycle Tree and beyond:
Steve Widmayer (fixing bikes at the shop!)
Randy Kiefer (in Ukraine!)
Redlands Strada Rossa (sign up for this year’s ride!)
Greta Nagel (the birthday girl!)
Gene Cuneo (posing for his official portrait!)
Vince Buck (he also donated his 1981 Trek!)
Kenton Nelson (posing with his old buddy, core volunteer Tim Meraz!)
Joel Eckman-Maus (helping us move in 2017!)
Joshua Sawyer (riding in the rain and liking it apparently!)
