"Get to Know Our Instructors" series: the lovely Ms. Kira Marie Garay, whose Jazzerversary is this Memorial Day weekend, and she is celebrating 8 years! Check out her bio below and see what items you may not have known about Kira!

Kira Marie Garay was born and raised in sunny SB/Goleta, went to San Diego State and finished off here at UCSB with a bachelor's in Communication. All of her family members has supported by attending a class or two throughout my Jazzercise teaching career- especially husband Matt and dad Tom as her die-hard dedicated customers sometimes attending 3x week. Currently, she looks forward to showing her 3 year old son Chase and 10 month old daughter Haven the joys of dancing and music. She's been an instructor for 8 years this Memorial Day weekend and is so grateful to have found this incredible community!

When Kira is not teaching Jazz, she's selling computer hardware for a local telecommunications company. She loves spending time with her kids and husband, practicing yoga when she has time, reading, and loves good food.

"I love teaching Jazzercise because of the variety of fun music, the dance moves, the energy and positivity from my Jazzer family," she says. "I will always be grateful to the instructor who had faith in me over 8 years ago and approached in coming on stage and leading class! Best decision I made! Our Jazzercise family is truly so special."

Get To Know Our Instructor Series with the lovely Nancy Myers. Nancy is celebrating 7 years today as an instructor with her Jazzerversary date of April 18, 2015! Happy Jazzerversary, Nancy! Check out some fun trivia about this local gal below in her bio:

I was born in Reno, Nevada in a military family. Our family moved around a bit and eventually moved to Santa Barbara California. So, I grew up in the beautiful resort town of Santa Barbara California and it wasn’t until I moved away to go to college and then came back to visit, that I realized how lucky I was to grow up in Santa Barbara. I never left after that. I became a teacher and am currently teaching Kindergarten in the North County of Santa Barbara. I did a lot of dancing in my youth and was a part of many dance teams and dance programs growing up. So, when I discovered Jazzercise I realized what a special thing it was. I was immediately hooked. It incorporated the dancing and choreography combined with the music that I had loved my whole life. I couldn’t wait to get off work and change my clothes so I could get to class. That love just grew and grew into wanting to become an instructor, which I finally did! Now, I get to learn and teach all of the routines that I loved doing in class as a student and client. But, Jazzercise isn’t just about the music and dancing for me. It’s also about kinship and sisterhood and family. I love my fellow instructors and am so grateful to have them in my life. And I love all of our Jazzercise customers who make each class fun and special. We share a love of dance and music, and we also celebrate and support one another. It’s an amazing place to come where you can be together with your friends and fellow dancers to share music, dance, life, love, even heartache, but most importantly…friendship.

Happiest of Birthdays to this gorgeous Jazzerbabe - our fearless leader, Suzy Cawthon !

The Get to Know Your Instructor series continues: Our fabulous instructor Jillian Fischer's Jazzerversary is in November, but we didn't want you all to wait that long to read her awesome bio and story. Check it out and see what you may have not known about her below (we bet there may be a "wow" moment - especially at the end) 😉:
Jazzerversery: November 22, 2014 (three days after my birthday and my certification is probably the best birthday present I could have given to myself)

I started doing Jazzercise because my mom has been going to Jazzercise since the early 90s. I spent a lot of time in the daycare room. When I was 20, my mom finally convinced me to try a class and I was hooked! Clearly, moms always know best. Jazzercise has always helped me to feel physically and mentally at my best, and by teaching I hope that I help others to feel that way too.

I grew up in Portland, OR and completed my undergraduate BA in music and English literature at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. After living in Chicago for a few years after graduation, I started my graduate degrees at UCSB. I completed my MA in music history in 2019 and I am working to complete my doctorate in music history. If all goes well, I'll be done this summer!

When I'm not Jazzercising or studying, I love to hang out with my cat Leela, crochet, cross stitch, and bake (which really just means eating baked goods). I also enjoy doing aerial dance and hanging upside down somewhat precariously from the ceiling.

Come join us in class and let’s keep lifting each other up, this month and every month.💞

Hair up. Music On. Let's Dance. See you this week, Jazzercise Santa Barbara/Goleta!

Happy Jazzerversary to Instructor Kerry Lee Doehr whose Jazzerversary date is today, March 19th 2005, celebrating 17 years of Jazzercise awesomeness.

Check out Kerry Lee's bio below and see if there are one or two things you may not have known about her:
Name: Kerry Lee Doehr ( "Kerry" or "Kerry Lee"- either is fine)

About me: 3rd generation Santa Barbaran (my first name is a family name "Kerry"- as in the Kerry restaurants that thrived in SB many years ago); married to Darrel; one 16 year old daughter (Grace); and one, 1year old French bulldog named Clarabelle; Former CEO of one of Santa Barbara's leading event planning businesses; professional speaker and consultant to the special event industry; segueing over to a career with The Walt Disney Company: Disney Parks, Experiences & Products | background in musical theater, lived in Paris, France a few times | speak, read and write French and Russian (you'll have to ask on which one she fell asleep on her Final exam) | Recently accepted into Stanford University's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program

Why I love teaching Jazzercise:
Jazzercise is my medicine. My therapy. It is my foundation for feeling and living my best life. When I feel strong and get my sweat on daily and have fun, I exude confidence and am a better leader, thinker, innovator, professional, mother, wife, daughter, friend, and overall human being. Add in this incredible community of customers we have, and it doesn't get any better! I will never quit being an instructor and I may be teaching the Jazzercise chair version at age 90, but I will always be teaching and in class when I'm not. 🎊🎊

Continuing our "Get To Know Our Instructors" series: today we are celebrating Debbie Miles-Dutton whose Jazzerversary is February 28, 1992, celebrating 30 years of Jazzercise excellence and fun!

Check out Debbie's bio below and see if there are some things you may not have known about her:

Born & raised in Northern California, went south for college - UCSB - Go Gauchos! Santa Barbara stole my heart. Husband, John, who I met outrigger paddling in San Diego, daughter Kailani (translation Heavenly Ocean) attending University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

I'm an Asst. Director of Recreation for Aquatics & Safety at UCSB. When I'm not at work, I'm paddling on the ocean or hiking (mostly paddling). If I had more hours in the day or days in the week I'd be able to teach more Jazzercise ☺

Peggy (Marchbanks) Buchanan is my amazing mentor. She recruited me to help develop Aquamotion in 1985, then "nudged" me into Jazzercise. I love sharing the energy of dancing together with great people to great music.
