It was a small but mighty field of competitors at our Club Pairs Championships the other weekend! 12 dedicated bowlers came out last Saturday to try for the title. Our tournaments director Marlyn put on another fantastic competition and everyone had a great time.
Because no team won all three of their games, it all came down to plus points, and even that was close! With only one or two plus points separating first, second and third, it was a real nail biter to see who would come out on top.
Congratulations to the top three finishers and everyone else that came out to play! ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ

Was the anticipation getting to you?? The eagerly awaited results from the summer league A flight are in, and itโs official: A Bowl Called Quest has reached dynasty status. In a very tight game against the fierce Bowling Stones, the game was tied going into the 9th end. But A Bowl Called Quest prevailed for their fourth season in a row. Both teams bowled expertly and it was a great matchup!
Congrats to Joel Evans, April Salas-Evans & Bryce Kunzel! And well-played to Angie Irwin, Antoinette Crawford & Andy Carnaghe for their stellar season.
Fall league โ the last of 2024 โ starts tomorrow. See you on the green!!
And thatโs a wrap! ๐ฌ The 2024 Eileen Morton Invitational featured 14 triples teams with representation from Beverly Hills LBC, Long Beach LBC, Santa Monica LBC, MacKenzie Park LBC, Friendly Valley LBC, Laguna Beach LBC, Newport Harbor LBC, and our home teams, of course.
The game was two-bowl triples, with a power play each team could use to double their score on one end per gameโฆ so long as they declared it before the jack was set!
All three winning teams were undefeated, with one plus point separating the 1st place team. ๐ฎ The other two were tied for 2nd, so there was a roll-off tiebreaker between the skips. This is the first year that a Santa Barbara LBC team has taken first place!
๐ฅ 1st Place: Chris Trenschel, Tamara Murray, Susan Trenschel
๐ฅ 2nd Place: Terry Mar, Angel Lopez, Ariyah Cohen
๐ฅ 3rd Place: David Sheehan, Linda Love, Jane Giffin
There are too many people to thank for making this tournament possible, so weโll just say that it was a true team effort. Thanks to all of our club members who made it a welcoming and special day filled with fun-yet-fierce competition in memory of our dear friend Eileen Morton.
Hope to see everyone next year! ๐

While wrapping up another successful season is reward enough for many of our league bowlers, we can't deny that the tradition of end of season taco night is something we all look forward to! ๐ฎ
Thank you for showing up every season for the last couple of years! The food is ๐ฅ and the staff that shows up every time couldn't be nicer.
It's a great way to sit down and get to know other league bowlers. And a big thank you to all our league members for continuing to show up and share your love of the game! We wouldn't be able to do this without you and can't wait to see you back on the green for Fall Season 2024! ๐๐๐ฝ๐
Finally, a special shout out to SBLBC members Becky Ronaldi, Leo Bechstein, Scott C***s Tara Smith & her husband Guy for the fresh new look of our lanai! They sanded, repainted the entire lanai an updated our string lights so we can enjoy more nights like this in the future. It truly takes a village! โค๏ธ
Spotted at the club today: Scott โSlam-bangoโ C***s generously giving his time to repainting the lanai! ๐๐๐ With a fresh coat, this covered picnic area is more welcoming and bright for all to enjoy. A big thanks to Becky Rinaldi and Leo Bechstein for their work on this project as well, and all the volunteers who pitch in with projects big and small. SBLBC is an all-volunteer-run club and we are so grateful for everyone who makes it the special place it is ๐บ
Thanks to Cambria Lawn Bowls for hosting so many Santa Barbarians this weekend ๐ Congrats to all the winners!
Road trip! ๐ฃ๏ธ Ten Santa Barbarians competed in this weekendโs rinks tournament at Cambria Lawn Bowls ๐ Rinks calls for teams of four and each person only gets two bowls. Itโs a really fun format because each position is crucial and you canโt waste any shots! Competing this weekend was:
- Joel Evans, Jim Cook, Cindy Cook, and April Salas-Evans
- Mark Hreha, Becky Rinaldi, Dina Medina, and Vern Rodriguez, and
- Chris Trenschel and Tamara Murray, who teamed up with Rachel Marcuson and Jesse May from Santa Cruz Lawn Bowls Club โ and won 3rd place! ๐ฅ
Congrats to the winners and a big thanks to the members at Cambria for hosting. Itโs a lot of work planning these big tournaments and making them fun and memorable for all ๐๐๐ (I mean, bowling, BBQ *and* Costco sheet cake? *chefโs kiss*)
Battle of the Sexes! On Saturday, the men and women took to the green. According to Tournament Director Marlyn Nicolas: โThe women won two out of three! There were three men triples bowling against three women pairs. We all had a good time, especially the women ๐โ ๐ช
