Once and awhile, ChatGPT hits.
This afternoon, I was looking for inspiration for content.
I cued ChatGPT:
“I want to talk about prioritizing strength training over other types of exercise”
And without hesitation, out popped this one liner…
“Muscle is the retirement account for your health”
Boom. That was it.
Listen, there are dozens of modalities of exercise: cardio kick boxing, running, walking, yoga, pilates, zumba, dance, sport, hiking… the list goes on.
And frankly, all of these are awesome, and I generally encourage our members to diversify their movement for the sake of variety and breaking up monotony.
BUT!
No other type of exercise gives you the ROI that strength training does.
In addition to the more immediate effects of building muscle (aesthetics, metabolism, blood sugar regulation, bone density, posture, energy levels…)
Strength training and muscle building also have a residual benefit on our quality of life as we age; think staying independent, carrying our own groceries, getting up off the ground, injury prevention, playing with current/future grandkids, travelling… the list goes on.
So for many of our members, who are busy with work/families/kids, that only have 2-4 hours per week to dedicate to exercise, it’s kind of a no brainer 🤷♂️.
Strength training gives you benefits now, while also investing in the version of yourself you’ll be 10, 20, or 30 years from now.
That’s a pretty powerful return.

Sorry for the long lay off - with a back end CRM transition, it took some bandwidth to get our footing again.
Alas, we’re back, and ready to talk fitness.
My wife (Brittany) and I celebrated her grandma’s 98th birthday this past weekend.
Pretty amazing to see how sharp, and together she still is at 98.
While at the party, I started chatting with a couple of her uncles.
They wanted to run their workout routines by me and pick my brain. They’re both in their 70’s and in above average shape.
Her Uncle Tim walked me through his routine. He bikes 16-20 miles roughly 3 days per week, and strength trains a few times as well.
He goes to the gym and does: cable pulldowns, back extensions, tricep extensions, decline sit-ups, squats, curls (and a few other machines and free weight stations). 3 sets of 10 at every station.
He asked me “what do you think?”
He wanted to know whether the types of exercises he was doing were appropriate.
So we chatted about the exercise selection a bit, and how to get the most out of his workouts.
But the thing that really stood out to me was, here’s a 75 year old man, committed to strength training 2-3 times per week with a cycling routine to match.
Sure, we could polish up his program, but he’s already diversifying his movements with strength training and cycling, and he’s committed to doing it several times a week!
THAT is the story. Training DOES NOT have to be rocket science to be effective.
Tim does this week over week. It’s his routine.
And, consistent movement compounded over time is the ticket to sustained fitness. Add in strength training within that routine and you’ve got the golden ticket.
So… the takeaway for you this week? Stack small fitness wins, strength train, and don’t overcomplicate it.
You got this. 💪
