JBA Cubs Forming 8u Team Now!
We are forming an 8u team that will practice one day per week beginning this winter and will participate in tournament play starting at 9u for the 2023 season. If your son’s birthdate is May 1, 2013-April 30, 2015 and they have a desire for excellence in the game of baseball, the JBA Cubs may be a great fit for your family!

This team will be very low cost and low commitment for the next year while the team is assembling and a great opportunity for young athletes to train. The JBA Cubs have run competitive teams under Brett Jaime since 2006 and currently have teams at the 10u and 14u levels. Our mission statement at the Jaime Baseball Academy is to “Help lead athletes to tirelessly pursue being the best they can can be through an environment that is learner centered.” Athletics is a wonderful opportunity for self-improvement, opportunities to share life with others and engage in the beautiful grind of life. At the Jaime Baseball Academy it is our hope to help our athletes develop a mind that is “Obsessed with improvement.” A mindset that makes no excuses & takes ownership for success and failure, is passionate for the process of improvement, has a gritty belief that they are never out of the fight, plays with freedom and energy and all this grounded in humility. Having been blessed to coach baseball the past 15 years I grow daily in my belief that young people are capable of great things if they develop a mindset and desire that truly loves the process. We don’t make promises of scholarships, velocity gains or launching homeruns. But, we do promise that we will value each athlete, that we will look to help them find their inner drive and discipline, and that we will never tire of helping them on their journey to discover just what they are capable of becoming.

🚨 Goal Setting 🚨
I sat down with my son for about an hour the other night after dinner and walked him through setting goals. He’s 9 y.o. but the process works for anybody. I then told him I’d make him a poster that he can mark his progress on. Here are some of the key takeaways:

💭 Vision: My son tends to think greatness is only for “other people.” A key component is showing him data of some of the players I’ve coached, regular humans who have worked hard and become collegiate and pro players and show him where they were at during various points on their journey. This helps the vision of greatness go from something he’s seen on TV to people he’s seen hit at his own house. Having a vision of greatness is the foundation!

🧱Process: It takes time to build. Reaching goals is like building a brick building. One brick at a time leads to massive structures. If my son wants to gain 5 mph over 10 months, he only needs to gain .5 mph per month. This concept and drawing it for him really opened his eyes.

💵 Buy-In: We started with the end of where he wants to be at certain ages and I showed him data on some of the kids who he wants to be like some day. Then we worked backwards and created milestones and then asked him simple questions like, “How do you throw faster?” This took A LOT of patience but was well worth it and that’s how he came up with the 5 ways to throw faster and hit harder. Those were his observations…after some guided questioning.

📅 Schedule: Once he was excited about his vision, understood the process and realized “The How” I helped guide him through creating a schedule he was excited about. We also set some time-specific marks.

✏️Mark Progress: Lastly everybody likes marking progress so there are the sections for him to fill in his reps as he works. I’ll probably add a section to mark his progress of 55%+ bullpens as well.

I’d highly recommend that parents sit down and walk their kids through setting goals. It takes time and patience but is fun, educational and sure to be rewarding!
