VARSITY SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: SULLIVAN LOWRY #46 Our Captain Sully has played for West Ranch Hockey for two years. He started playing hockey when he was five years old and his dad inspired him to play. After graduation Sully plans to go to a four-year college to continue playing hockey and get a degree in business. His favorite memory playing for West Ranch is winning the league championship last year. One of the best pieces of advice Sully received from a coach was from Coach Josh when he reminded Sully that effort matters, but finishing is what makes the difference, which encouraged Sully to work harder on his finishing ability.

Head Coach Dylan says of Sully: “This is Captain Sully’s second and final year with our program and the coaches couldn’t be prouder of the young man he has become. He has grown into a leader earning captaincy this season and did not look back. Sully leads by example day in and day out, whether it be practice in the dog days of the season or a big game. He is one of the smartest players I have had the pleasure of coaching, always making the little plays that don’t always get noticed. The team’s success this year has a lot to do with who he is as a leader. We coaches have no doubt this young man will achieve great things in the future, and I can’t wait to see it. Congrats to Sully on a heck of a high school career!”

VARSITY SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: AUSTIN BROCK #21 Alternate Captain Austin has played for West Ranch for three years. He started playing hockey at the age of five because his older cousins were playing hockey. Austin plans to go to COC after high school. His favorite memory is when he got to play with his brothers because he will never have the opportunity do it again with West Ranch Hockey. The best advice Austin got from his coaches is to not stress and that everything will figure itself out.

Head Coach Dylan says of Austin: “The final of the three Brock brothers finally reaches the milestone senior season, and he has made the most of it. Stepping into a leadership role, Austin has exceeded all expectations and is a player that lights up the room and makes everyone around him better. Whatever the team needs, whenever the team needs it, this young man steps up. Whether it’s a big physical check to change momentum, a shift dominating in the offensive zone, he does whatever is asked of him and is as coachable a player as you could ask for. The way Austin thinks about the game of hockey, I would venture to say that coaching of some form is in his future. Whatever he chooses to do in the future, I will certainly be a fan of Austin Brock. Cheers to the next chapter, Austin!”

VARSITY SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: ANTHONY GASPARYAN #49 Anthony has played for West Ranch Hockey for one year. He started playing hockey at four years old and the Los Angeles Kings inspired him to continue to play hockey. His plans after graduation are to go to college and he may continue to play hockey after high school. His favorite memory from his time playing for West Ranch was when the team went to downtown Nashville for New Year’s. The best advice a coach has given to Anthony was Coach Dylan’s advice not for our highs to get too high or our lows to get too low.

Head Coach Dylan says of Anthony: “Anthony has been an incredible addition to the club this year, his first and only year with the program. His versatility is invaluable with the ability to play any position. Anthony is an offensive defenseman with some of the best vision in the league. His ability to create time and space for himself and either find the open man or take it to the net is top tier. He leads by example and sets the tone for his teammates. It is rare you see a player with Anthony’s offensive abilities, be willing to bare down in his own zone and block shots. It is a testament to the type of young man he is. Wears his heart on his sleeve and is loved by his teammates. There will be a hole in the lineup when Anthony moves on but we are excited to be spectators for the next chapter of his life.” Congratulations, Anthony!

VARSITY SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: MICHAEL YUREK #50 Michael has played for West Ranch Hockey for three years. He started playing hockey when he was eight years old. His older cousin inspired him to play, Michael always looked up to him and enjoyed watching him play in his games. After high school, Michael plans to continue working with his family business or pursue becoming a Navy SEAL. His favorite memory at West Ranch was winning the championship game and celebrating with his teammates. The best advice given to Michael by a coach was when Coach Dylan said, “They don’t ask how, they ask how many.” This stuck with Michael because no matter how you score a goal — fancy or not — a goal is still a goal.

Head Coach Dylan says of Michael: “There is a lot to say about this young man. Michael has grown each year he has been with the program, coming to us in his sophomore season. He is a big, physical presence that others hate to play against and if you know hockey, you know this is a huge compliment. Starting as a defenseman and eventually growing into an offensive role and a hound around the front of the net, Michael has seen an increase in offensive production year over year. Most importantly, he has grown into a better young man and will be missed around our program both on and off the ice.” Congratulations, Michael!
