Adult Class offerings held at London Nelson Community Center, The 418 Project, The Tannery, & Desert Dream. Motion Pacific is a 501(c)3 charitable arts organization. Motion Pacific offers over 1500 dance classes a year to students from two-years-old. The program is strong and supports over 150 youth/teen students per semester as well as a consistent population of adults that take classes regularly. Motion Pacific hosts over 20 dance workshops throughout the year, offering opportunities for local dancers to learn from local, regional, national and international artists. Motion Pacific strives to provide a context in which the presentation of dance can thrive at all levels. In order to support dance at its various stages we have initiated several programs in addition to our bi-annual performance seasons: the emerging choreographer “incubator project,” now in its third year, provides resources and mentorship for early career artists to present in a professional environment and gain valuable tools and experience. Our newest addition is the “max10” program, an uncurated presentation of short works presented in a low-tech environment. These events are designed to encourage feedback and discussion between artists, audiences and peers.

WE FOUND A NEW HOME! 🪩🏠✨

After several years searching, we are thrilled to announce that Motion Pacific has signed a 10+ year lease at 718 Frederick Street in Santa Cruz!

Before we can open our doors to you all, our new space needs to be transformed, including flooring, lighting, studio improvements, and critical ADA accessibility upgrades so all bodies can move freely in our new home.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

To open our doors in early 2027, we are launching a capital campaign to raise $150,000 to make all of those upgrades! To reach our goal, we’ve created a Digital Dance Floor that will live on our website where folks can purchase a virtual tile, dedicate it and watch it light up! 

Each tile cost $200 and 100% of those funds goes toward building our dream home. You can dedicate your tile, pool friends together to purchase multiple or maybe even ask your employer to buy one and show their support for arts in Santa Cruz!

Every $200 donation lights up one tile and brings us closer to our goal. 
We need 750 tiles to reach our goal and open our doors in early 2027.
We need all hands on deck - and we know that together we can do this!

SENSUAL CONTEMPORARY 🥀
📆 Wednesdays October 14th - November 4th
⏰ 6:30-7:45PM
📍London Nelson Community Center

This class will focus on beginner contemporary technique combined with elements of sensual dance and burlesque. The goal of this class is for dancers to explore their own connection to their sensuality through fluid, slow, and sexy movement rooted in modern and contemporary dance. Class structure will include warm-up, movement exploration, and choreography that will build over the four weeks. By the end, dancers will hopefully feel more connected to their sensual side and have a better understanding of contemporary movement.

Marissa holds her BFA in dance performance and has over 25 years of dance training and performance experience. She absolutely loves teaching new dancers who want to increase their confidence and learn more foundational skills and technique.

This is a one time pop up class that is great for a beginning contemporary dancer! While some students have no prior dance training, others will have several years of experience and all our welcome for this class. 
 
What to wear:
Dance/lounge/workout wear that you feel comfortable/like yourself in, and allows you to move freely. Socks, dance shoes/toe un**es or bare feet are all appropriate footwear. No jeans or street clothes.

We’re excited to welcome back Reynah for the next 3️⃣ weeks 🎉 Reyna Hernández-Roque (she/her) is a teaching artist, performer, choreographer, and freestyler who’s danced with Offbeat Sessions, FlowMotion Dance Studio, PROJECTED — and danced in LA, the Bay, and even China. In this series, dancers will further delve into hip-hop grooves, party moves, combos, and freestyling while connecting with themselves and others
