🔆 Coach Spotlight: Daniel Kalogerini

Q: What is your earliest or favorite memory of falling in love with soccer?

A: My favorite memory that made me fall in love with soccer was at the age of 7–8, playing with my friends on the dirt street in the small town where I used to live in Chile, South America.... The boundaries of the field were the fences of the properties.. More than once we had to run away because we kicked the ball and broke a window of one of the surrounding houses. After the games, my friends and I would climb up a tree to talk about soccer

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of coaching?

A: What I like to do outside of being a coach is camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. I also try to stay active playing soccer in local leagues.

Q: If your players only remember one lesson from you, what do you hope it is?

A: I think the most important lesson I would like my players to remember is that soccer is more fun when played with friends. Winning tournaments isn't the most important thing; on the contrary, building friendships around soccer is something far more valuable .

Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching?

A: My favorite part of coaching is watching the kids grow through sports and feeling like I'm making a small impact on their lives.

Q: What do you love most about Northern Soccer Club?

A: What I like most about Northern is that it's a local academy that brings together kids from all backgrounds, regardless of their social or economic status, all united by a single goal: soccer.

🔆 Coach Spotlight: Ben Hoffacker

Q: What is your earliest or favorite memory of falling in love with soccer?

A: I fell in love with soccer when I first played the game at a young age when I had a friend encourage me to try out for the team.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of coaching?

A: My favorite thing to do outside of coaching is outdoor adventuring with my wife and kids.

Q: What is your strangest or most unique "claim to fame", or a random experience you've had that people might not know about?

A: I had a near death experience in a motorcycle accident as a teenager that I miraculously walked away from relatively uninjured.

Q: If your players only remember one lesson from you, what do you hope it is?

A: Compassion and responsibility. Compassion for others because it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. Responsible for your own self determination to earn your success and avoid blaming others.

Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching?

A: My favorite thing about coaching is watching young players progress and find success doing something they love.

Q: What do you love most about Northern Soccer Club?

A: I love that NSC is family oriented and accessible to a diverse community.

🔆Coach Spotlight: Dan Frosch

Q: What is your earliest or favorite memory of falling in love with soccer?

A: Playing in the legendary pickup soccer games in Riverside Park, New York City as a kid. It was the way I learned about the world, through adults and kids from different countries who gathered each day to play pickup. I ended up writing my college entry essay on these pickup games and the impact they had on me and the neighborhood I grew up in.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of coaching?

A: Traveling. I love to travel around the country (and the world) whenever I can. I’ve been fortunate through my job as a journalist to be able to see  a wide array of places.  The world is a massive, breathtaking and beautiful place, and it’s incredible to see soccer as something that connects all of us.

Q: What is your strangest or most unique "claim to fame", or a random experience you've had that people might not know about?

A: I worked as writer and editor at The Source, a famous hip-hop music magazine, in the early 2000’s. I interviewed, spent time with and wrote stories on many of rap’s biggest stars.

Q: If your players only remember one lesson from you, what do you hope it is?

A: My style of possession, passing and intelligent soccer, which I personally find to be the most enjoyable to watch.

Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching?

A: Seeing the kids work on a concept in training over and over, and then execute it in the game. The marvel of those moments never gets old.

Q: What do you love most about Northern Soccer Club?

A: Our community of dedicated coaches, talented kids and supportive parents is unique, and rare in today’s cutthroat world of youth sports. The club’s emphasis on turning Northern kids into intelligent, creative and brave soccer players, and holistic members of our community is something that I deeply appreciate.
