PILATES YAP | Are We Talking Too Much? đź’¬

As Pilates teachers, we love to cue. Alignment, breathing, muscle engagement, movement patterns… sometimes all at once!

But are we giving our clients enough time to process what we’re asking of them?

I’ve been thinking more about the balance between guiding movement and allowing someone the space to explore, feel, and figure things out.

Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do as teachers is stop talking and start observing.

Because more cueing doesn’t necessarily mean better teaching.

Fellow teachers, are you over-cueing? 🙋‍♀️

MOVEMENT LOGIC | The Power of Cueing

“Heavy in the pelvis.”

Four simple words I used while teaching Short Box this morning.

Sometimes a cue isn’t about telling someone what to move. It’s about helping them feel and understand their movement differently.

During Round Back and Flat Back, I used this cue to encourage a sense of grounding and connection through the pelvis, rather than allowing the weight of the upper body to dominate.

Same cue. Two exercises. Different movement demands.

That’s what I love about cueing. The right words, at the right moment, can change someone’s experience of movement.

A cue doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. It just has to make sense to the body in front of you.

Teachers, what’s a simple cue you find yourself returning to?

I’ve been thinking lately about what I want to share here—and finding my own voice in the process.

The longer I teach movement, the more curious I become. About how we move, how we teach movement, and what helps us stay strong, mobile and capable as we age.

I want to share with purpose—what I’m learning, what I’m noticing as a teacher, and what I’m practicing in my own life.

Movement. Strength. Mobility. Aging well. And a lot of curiosity along the way.

If it helps someone move, teach or understand their body a little better, then it’s worth sharing.

I love me a good skeleton. đź’€

This trio is a new addition to the studio. Every time I left the grocery store, there they were… desperately waiting for some sucker to buy them.

I held out for five weeks. FIVE.
And then I couldn’t say no anymore.

Clearly, they were meant for Pilates Logic.

And because everything eventually turns into a movement lesson around here, here’s my Pilates spin on the three wise skeletons:

Speak kindly to yourself.
See your alignment.
Listen to your body.

Pretty solid advice—in Pilates and in life.

Welcome to the studio, boys. 💀💀💀

RESET WEDNESDAY ✨

Sometimes a reset is this simple.

Pause.

Take a breath.

Then take another one.

We tend to think we need an hour, a workout, a massage—or an entire afternoon to ourselves—to feel restored.

But sometimes the first step is simply giving ourselves permission to stop for a few minutes.

No phone. No multitasking. No need to accomplish anything.

Just breathe.

Your reset doesn’t have to be big to count.

MOVEMENT LOGIC MONDAY | Cueing

Cueing isn’t just for Pilates.

Whether we’re on the Reformer, lifting weights, or moving through everyday life, the words we use can change how the body responds.

Take “ribs down.”

It’s a cue many of us have heard—and one I use less often.

Why? Because depending on the person and the movement, “ribs down” can sometimes create more holding and bracing than we actually want.

The goal isn’t always to hold the body in a perfect position. It’s to help the body organize itself while still being able to breathe and move.

Sometimes a different cue—or fewer words altogether—creates a better result.

That’s Movement Logic: understanding the why behind the way we move.

RESET WEDNESDAY ✨

A reset doesn’t always mean doing less.

Sometimes it means stepping out of the day-to-day long enough to look at what’s working, what needs attention, and where I want to go next.

I’ve been spending more time lately working on my business—not just working in it. Creating more intention around the studio, the Sensory Lounge, and what I want Pilates Logic to become.

Still a work in progress. But sometimes a little space to think is exactly the reset we need.

What could use a reset in your week?
