The Santa Rosa City Council earlier this month passed an ordinance that prohibits the use of accessory dwelling units for short-term rentals. In other words, granny flats like we use cannot be pressed into service as Airbnb rentals.
We have operated our Airbnb for over 7 years and have been host to around 400 guests. It has been an incredibly fulfilling experience for both us and the visitors. We have funneled thousands of dollars in transient occupancy taxes to the city.
This is horrible news for the Airbnb industry and for the community. Not only is the Airbnb experience phenomenally beneficial for out-of-town visitors who are here for vacation travel, it also provides a great service for local families who have out of town visitors and need extra space to house them. Not to mention people who are here on work assignments and choose not to live in an impersonal institutional setting such as a hotel.
If this ordinance holds up to legal scrutiny, we're looking at being forced to shut down our Airbnb at the end of this year.
We sincerely hope this does not happen. Please stand by for more information.

"Dear Sonoma County Tourism Partners:
Just moments ago, we received confirmation that leisure tourism will be allowed to resume beginning Friday, June 19 at 12:01 a.m.
This includes all lodging: hotels, vacation rentals, campgrounds, etc. Essentially, Sonoma County will be aligning with the state guidelines starting Friday.
As mentioned in a previous update, the tourism and hospitality industry has prepared for this eventuality with a broad and detailed program of health and wellbeing protocols (available on SoCoLaunch) to ensure the safety of guests.
Additionally, the Safe Travels Promise is in place to encourage visitors to abide by the protocols and policies of businesses and the health office policies, interact with our residents in a responsible way and take a “we’re in this together” approach. "
The Bicycle B&B is still closed in compliance with county health officers order:
The Press Democrat reported: http://santarosapressdemocrat.ca.newsmemory.com/?publink=277d4317d
"Dr. Sundari Mase, the county’s health officer, said she has no plans to clear the way for another area reopening wave, including fitness centers, campgrounds and hotels for leisure travelers, until June 22 so she and her team can assess the effects of public interaction at the enterprises that just resumed operations. And that’s despite state officials saying those additional business sectors and public venues could restart on June 12."
Officials cautious after new openings - The Press Democrat Two days after allowing a broad range of businesses to resume in Sonoma County, the top public health official said Monday it would take at least two weeks to determine whether restaurateurs welcoming back diners inside and cosmetologists cutting and styling clients’ hair, along with other commerc...

We miss you! Now entering our third month of no bookings due to the corona virus, we are missing the communications and the connections we have had with so many wonderful and interesting travelers over the years.
We are taking this time to make some improvements around the property. We look forward to welcoming you back for a visit, hopefully someday soon.
You will enjoy the new privacy of your completely fenced in patio with new fencing and brick pavers...
We are not accepting bookings through the end of April May June... at least.
Please be safe and self isolate.
