SATORI-RYU BUSHIDO CHARTER
History of Satori-ryu and lineage
Dale Kirby Shihan has an amazing career in Martial Arts, spending more than half a century as a student and instructor of Japanese Karate and Weapons Arts including Satori-Ryu Iaido, a school of Japanese Swordsmanship. Kirby Shihan served as a point man for
the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam (1967 & 1968), completing 12 combat air assaults and receiving the Bronze Star for Valor and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor. Kirby Shihan trained under many Japanese Karate and Sword Masters including Grand Master Hironori Otsuka of Wado Ryu Karatedo, Master Sugino of Katori Shinto Ryu, Master Yamaguchi of Eishin Ryu Iaido, and Master Y. Sukai. Master Kai holds 8th Dan in eight Japanese martial arts.
Deemed the “American Samurai” by Official Karate Magazine in 1980 and the “Tennessee Samurai” by Karate Illustrated in 1983, Kirby Shihan is well published as a leader in bringing Iaido to the United States. Kirby Shihan earned his Renshi Instructor’s license in Iaido from the International Martial Arts Federation in 1986. Kirby Shihan is also a senior instructor for the United States Eastern Wado Ryu Karate Federation.
Dale Kirby Shihan has dedicated a strong part of his life to passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of martial artists, and we are thankful for his positive time and energy. As an echo of such a wonderful positive influence on so many lives, Dale Kirby Shihan was inducted as a “Living Legend” into the Sport Karate Museum in Houston, Texas in 2017.

Article I — The name of this organization shall be Satori-ryu Bushido
Article II — The purpose of this organization is to:
• Spread the Art of Satori-ryu which was formed by our Soke Dale S. Kirby Sr.
• Promote potential students to appropriate ranks
• Provide a positive and structured environment for learning and personal development of Satori-ryu Bushido.
• Govern all actions of promotion/ determine leadership, in case of loss of leadership, the new leader will be determined by Vote of the Black Belt council, council will be comprised of all 3rd Dans and up. Vote will be 2/3rd decision voted on by 4th dans and up.
Article III — Membership
• Membership is open to individuals who support the mission and value the Satori-ryu Bushido. Black belt Board members decide who can be admitted by Vote
• Members must follow all rules, guidelines, and codes of conduct.
• Membership may be revoked for behavior that violates organizational standards, their Black belt can be unrecognized by the Organization if the Council agrees and done by Vote. Unanimous Vote from the Council decides.
Article IV — Leadership
• The organization shall be guided by a Head Instructor/Director or designated leadership team. Current leader is Renshi Jerry Cichon 6th dan (promoted by Board approval)
• Leadership is responsible for:
• Setting policies and curriculum
• Ensuring safety and integrity
• Managing operations and communication
Article V — Meetings & Activities
• Regular meetings, classes, or activities will be held at times determined by leadership. Quarterly Seminars will be provided for additional training and advancement.
Article VI — Code of Conduct
All members agree to:
• Show respect to instructors, peers, and the training environment
• Maintain discipline, focus, and a positive attitude
• Follow safety protocols and training guidelines
• Represent the organization with integrity

Article VII — Amendments
This charter may be amended by leadership as needed to support the growth and mission of the organization.
