Exercises like hawk are often ignored because of the challenge. Whether you’re a beginner/new to Pilates or a seasoned practitioner, this variation of hawk targets your obliques without the strain on your back. It’s important to work lateral flexion of the spine to create a mobile back & a strong core.
In addition to Hawk, here are 4 ways you should move your spine to strengthen your abs:
Forward flexion (crunches)
Lateral flexion (side bends like Hawk)
Spinal extension (swan/cobra)
Rotation (twists like bicycle crunches)

Spinal rotation helps with posture by opening your chest & encouraging rotation through the spine. Long day at work … think spinal rotation.
Hip release opens your hips. The movement stems from the top of the femur bone into the hip socket. Maintain neutral pelvis for the best results! If you have back pain, this one’s for you!
