Shoaling all around the outside with the deepest water on the north side close the shoreline. Manatees were wandering through the inshore area and into the cut itself at times.

As of June 17 2025, Midnight Pass is at a record maximum depth & cross sectional area since its re-opening at 17.7ft deep with a cross sectional area of 1222 sq-ft.

At the end of October 2024, it was just 13.3ft deep with a cross sectional area of 844 sq-ft.

Flow rate is the product of the cross sectional area and tidal velocity of water through the pass. More cross sectional area gives more flow.
