North Carolina Masters Swimming

Nine years ago, Carlos faced a bladder cancer diagnosis. Instead of slowing down, he made a choice: to live with purpose.

Inspired by the world’s longest-living "Blue Zone" communities, Carlos focused on the pillars of longevity:
At the center of it all? Swimming is his "fountain of youth."

Today, Carlos is honoring those pillars and competing in six events this week at Spring Nationals.

He is proof that your "prime" is whenever you decide it is. Some goals don't have an age limit!

The ultimate family tradition just hit the water at the 2026 USMS Spring Nationals. 🏊‍♂️🧬

The Lauffer family proved that the lanes are better together as Matt (58) and his three sons took on the Men’s 200-yard Medley Relay as a complete unit. Matt led the way on backstroke, followed by Christian (27) on breaststroke, Brayden (29) on butterfly, and Landon (24) anchoring the freestyle. They touched the wall in an impressive 1:36.73, securing 8th place in their age group.

“It’s a little surreal, but a true blessing to race as a family,” Landon said. “Honestly, I’m surprised we didn’t do this sooner. We all plan to have three kids each just to carry on this family tradition”.

Talk about a legacy in the making! 👏🔥

NCMS won 1st Place Regional Team with 3,478 points, finishing ahead of Wisconsin Masters with 1,419 points. And as a little bonus bragging right… we also had the highest overall team score! 💪
A huge congratulations to all of our NCMS teammates who raced, cheered, counted, coached, volunteered, filled relay spots, and
helped make this meet such a success. Your patience, humor, flexibility, and willingness to jump in for relays made all the difference!
NCMS also broke 12 relay records and 3 individual records over the weekend. A full Nationals recap with the complete list of records will be coming soon.
