Put on the breaks for speed and control

06/04/2026

One thing that’s really opened my eyes lately is understanding the relationship between the pelvis and the lead femur through impact.

As the pelvis rotates through the ball, it eventually “runs into” the lead femur. The lead femur acts almost like a post, helping slow and stabilize pelvic rotation. This braking effect is what allows energy to transfer up the chain and out into the club.

If you watch Rory closely, you can almost see a slight recoil or deceleration of the hips as the pelvis meets the lead femur. From there, the lead leg begins to extend, the pelvis continues working upward, and everything unwinds into a powerful, balanced finish.

I’ve been working through training program, and it’s completely changed the way I think about the golf swing. His understanding of body movement, biomechanics, and how the body actually creates speed is incredible. It’s opened my eyes to a whole new way of moving and generating power, and it’s challenged a lot of the concepts I previously believed.

Don’t get stuck… try this!! 👀

Here’s 2 great ways to get rid of your early extension. That’s the standing up out of your posture in the downswing, causing tons of inconsistent shots and loss of power. Try feeling like you take the club back and you sit in a chair while staying closed to the target with your shoulders and hips. Once you get that squat that will help transfer you over to your lead side and you can rotate using the ground from there.
