This weekend I was surprised with the opportunity to be reviewed by Osensei Roensch & Professor Torok. After two hours of handpicked techniques and "tightening the screws" I was honored to receive the rank of Rokudan (6th degree black belt) and the title of Renshi in Shintoyoshinkai Jujutsu
As a scrawny yellow belt I wrote a letter to my teacher saying, "This is it! This is what I want to do!" At the time I was writing about martial arts, but over the years this statement also came to encapsulate the Shintoyoshinkai system as well. While others had branched out or gone other directions or made changes, I always felt both a love and a comfort for these well proven movements. So, "This is it! This is what I want to do!" also includes being sure that what I am teaching is on the same page as what the head of the system taught and passing on Shintoyoshinkai.
Thank you to Osensei for the many years of teaching and fellowship. Thank you Mr. Torok for the same. Thank you Mr. Sensmen for being there to witness. Thank you to Dr. Brian Nell for being a last minute uke & for a celebratory lunch after. Thank you to Misha for encouraging my various roles at Cypress Pillar, including teaching martial arts.
It has been an amazing journey thus far. And as Mr. Torok said, I can't wait for NEXT!
