Hello All, On Saturday, August 6th I'll join a group of stand up paddle (SUP) board racers for a 3 mile fundraising race in Sag Harbor, NY. This race called, 'The Paddle for Pink', raises funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Breast cancer research is a topic close to my heart, no pun intended; I was diagnosed with pre-cancer tissue at 47 and was lucky it was found in the pre-cancer stage. I was able to take medication for prevention but later my mother and sister were both diagnosed with breast cancer. They dealt with it and didn't allow breast cancer to define them; I'm from tough stock. If you could donate to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and sponsor me as a racer I'd greatly appreciate it. There are many other worthy foundations and funds and if you have one you've already supported that's fine but please send me a cheer on Saturday, August 6th to have a fun and speedy race.

Interested in becoming American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Level 1 & 2 SUP Instructors? The 3 day training is intense and gratifying. I'm thinking of helping set up the course with Steve Busch, paddler extraordinaire, locally. Please email:([email protected]) me or message me from fb.

Course Description:

The American Canoe Association instructor certification process is rigorous, educational, and fun. This three (3) day course will challenge participants both mentally and physically. The IDW-ICE helps students to become acquainted with the ACA model of effective instruction; paddling and leadership necessary in standup paddleboarding; and the teaching techniques, paddling skills, technical knowledge, rescue and safety competencies required for successful completion of the Instructor Certification Exam. Participants are recommended to have passed an L2 Skills Assessment in Paddleboarding through Paddle-N-More.

During the IDW-ICE we will focus on fine-tuning each candidate’s personal skills, rescue, group management and teaching, as well as expanding their knowledge in various aspects of the paddle sport. Each participant will be assigned mini dry-land and on-water topics to present to the group. This dress rehearsal will allow the candidate to receive valuable feedback from their peers and the IT(s) on their ability to accurately transfer information to students.
