Well the storm didn’t bury the trails at Daniels too badly. There are definitely down sticks branches and trees, but it’s nowhere near as bad as I (Josh) feared. I only had a chance to work the bottom half of DRSF on Friday Morning. Sawed out three trees, moved many more by hand and cleared countless sticks/branches.

We’d sure appreciate anyone willing to lend hands, or ride in group a to clear bigger stuff and/or carry some saws.

Mostly we hope our neighbors nearby in Wilton are all safe after that wild evening. Thomas cleared a bunch of down fall on Graphite, and Scott has reported that Gurney Lane and Gurney South at Rush Pond are both running just fine.

Ride on, clear wood. Thanks everyone!

If you’re looking for some fun this Saturday, go support our friends in Speculator NY!

Oak Mtn has been investing in their Mtn Bike Trails over the past years. They already had some great down hill runs and Blue Line Trail Design LLC (known for building Wheelerville Trails & McCauley Mountain ) just wrapped up a BEAUTIFUL new climb trail

This event will help this great FAMILY RUN MTN continue to turn The Village Of Speculator, NY into yet another Mtn Bike hub in Upstate NY … and you KNOW we at SMBA love seeing that!! Go enjoy the party this weekend in Speculator!

Heads up! There is a Bees nest on Twizzler. We are pretty certain of the general area it’s in, but we haven’t ACTUALLY gotten eyes on it. We’ll keep looking for it. But in the mean time, **especially** if you’re allergic, either skip Twizzler or ride it REALLY fast!

Folks are getting stung. So ride with as much caution/speed/as YOU deem fit.

Hudson! 🐾

We’ve had some questions already coming in about what SMBA’s role will be with Gurney & Rush Pond.

We are NOT replacing the work that has traditionally been done by Wilderness Property Management. We will be taking care of smaller jobs that will let WPM focus on bigger jobs like the one they just did revitalizing Tango & E-20. Zach and his crew have been turning out great work all over Warren County and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!

This will also allow a proper channel for people to donate to and support the trails as SMBA is an official non-profit. There will be more information coming in the next weeks and months. But rest assured, we have no intention of changing the established and loved personalities of these great networks. We want to see them continue to thrive and be enjoyed.

We’re really excited about this merger, we know the Queensbury crew is too and we hope you riders are as well! See you on the trails.

SMBA has increased the size of its footprint quite a bit! We are so excited to announce our stewardship agreement with the Queensbury Parks and Recreation to maintain the trails at Gurney Lane and Gurney South (Rush Pond)! With this agreement, SMBA adds 13+ miles of trails that include flowy singletrack and berms as well as some old school roots and rocks.

For years, Scott Wheeler, Eric Lendrum, and Tom Williams have been working with their crew to maintain the trails. By joining with SMBA, the Queensbury chapter will not only have access to our amazing volunteers but will soon have the ability to accept donations. Keep an eye out for new Kiosks, Signage, and QR codes at Gurney & Rush Pond. Queensbury riders have been asking for years how they can help out and support the trails, and now there will be a way. SMBA is looking forward to building on our relationship with Rick’s Bike Shop and being more directly involved with long-standing events like Churney Gurney and Fat Tire Bike Day.

We are especially grateful to Parks and Recreation former director Steve Lovering and current director Jennifer France for their vision and continued support for mountain bike trails as an important recreational resource for residents, families, and visitors. This commitment strengthens the community, supports outdoor access, and helps ensure these trails can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Last week’s storms brought down scores of trees and branches. It’s been an effort getting trails cleared

Shout out to the SMBA North Vice President, Dave Walters for hitting Lincoln, Daniels and Graphite today with his saw in a backpack, and clearing out the big trees. ..with some help from Smuggs the trail dawg. 🐾

Thanks to everyone who gets off their bike and moves a branch or at least lets us know where the big ones are!
